Even a jaded old collector can sometimes have a pleasant surprise

I have been cleaning out portions of our home, having recently survived another renovation project, and found what was left of my grandmother's "hoard" of coins. I have already cherrypicked most of the good stuff out of the collection. I opened an envelope, which had a handful of Indian head cents, and one in particular caught my eye:

It is an obviously heavily corroded Civil War token, of little value, and likely circulated alongside IHC for many years, before finding its way into this hoard. A fun numismatic discovery on an otherwise, hot, humid, "How?", housecleaning Sunday afternoon

I like that kind of surprise.

I give away money. I collect money.
I don’t love money . I do love the Lord God.
New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

Cool suprise find!
I was looking through a small plastic case that has little drawers where I keep tubes of medicine, mole skin, a small amount of my daughters make up etc when I ran across an 1904 IHC...probably in VF+ condition. I have no idea how it get there or how long its been there since I have had this little case for probably 10 years. It was raw...no 2x2 or anything....

Exactly!
Do you realize how hard it was to secretly slip a cool Civil War Token into your grandmother's stash, just so you wouldn't leave us RYK?
