Here's a stopper: 1889 Proof Twenty Lib PCGS PR67DCAM - PICS

Great coin, and the photo really shows off the black and white contrast! I used to think that the mid to late 1890's what the height of the Philadelphia Mint's quality for Proof Coins, but this 1889 Proof Twenty will surely give any coin a run for its money. Its just popped up on PCGS CoinFacts, PR67DCAM. 41 made. 12 to 15 known is my guess. Some may not agree with how the coin looks but wow, is this coin a stopper. I've got one of the new Apple 27 inch HD screens, and when this coin is blown up, wow, wow, wow is all I can say. What a great photo, the quality of photos has really gotten better. Good job PCGS! There are dozens of newly graded proof gold coins on CoinFacts. I guess Simpson is performing set reviews, or Sunnywood is really making a splash jumping back in, - thanks to the owner, as we get to see some great coins and they are memorialized with the excellent photos.
I have also attached a photo of the next highest graded. PCGS PR65+DCAM. Love the color and originality. I'd merge the two coins if I could. I would just guess that the 67DCAM is worth 350k, and the PR65+DCAM is worth 150k. Which coin do you prefer and why?

Also, after viewing those Saddle Ridge Hoard coins and browsing the massive list from SS Central America this coin really has perfect timing! It's Liberty Head gold season!

Any help locating any of these OBW rolls would be gratefully appreciated!
Great post, thanks for sharing the pics.
Obviously one needs to see either in hand.
I can tell the 65+ has not been dipped. Any denomination of proof liberty gold with that natural (undipped) haze is pretty scarce.

Interesting and something I didn't know. I do like originality, but I am not sure I know what it is on high grade gold.

Unfortunately from what I have seen, most Proof Liberty Gold has been dipped just like 19th century silver has.
> I don't know if the 67DCAM has been dipped or not, but the 65+ shows the originality SethChandler points out.
> I am not a photographer, but I am certain the 65+ looks much better in hand than the pictures show.
> Original toning in Proof LIBERTY Gold is similar to silver. It starts around the outer fields and progresses towards the devices. The obverse of the 65+, especially from 11:00 to 5:30, illustrates this nicely.
Last year I posted a thread on my PR set. My $5 and $10 are the most heavily toned, look similar to this 65+, and superb in hand. Many viewers might not realize this from the pictures. Here's a link to my pics if you want to see a few other examples of original Proof Gold:
