At Long Last, A PSA Graded 1971 Topps Baseball Wax Pack!

I'd been searching for quite a while for a nicer looking PSA graded 1971 Topps baseball wax pack to complement the GAI 7.5 1971 pack I've had in my collection for many years now. Moran has a few, but trying to pry one from his cold hard grip was a universally fruitless pursuit, so the seach continued, LOL...I was very pleased to acquire this 1st series beauty~super clean pack and with no rips or tears~even the thick slab of gum is still intact! Looks as nice as any PSA 8 pack I've seen~very pleased with this addition to the collection as it finally completes my run of PSA graded wax packs from 1970-1980.

<< <i>Thanks for the great transaction Tim - Super pleased that the pack went to such a great home! >>
Thanks again, Michael~it was a pleasure dealing with you~terrific transaction from start to finish!

Only problem may be that PSA would still be liable for subsequent sales and shipments of those packs.
John, you nailed it~that is exactly the issue~when PSA was sending back to me 23 of the 24 packs I had subbed a few months back, I tried to offer them a waiver of responsibility for any damage during transit, but the rep told me that while that would be fine as far as they and I were concerned, it would not cover the next owner should I decide to sell or part with any of the packs in the future. It's a real shame, imo, as I do like their holders, too, but something needs to be done.

I don't know why they don't adopt the GAI holder design. Much cheaper to implement, could grade vending, rack and boxes and has been proven to be reliable. Plus, many prefer the look, presentation and storage benefits of the soft plastic holders. If anyone is going to the PSA Luncheon, I'd be grateful if someone can ask Joe about adopting this concept.

Will try and post scans of the pack run from 1970 through 1980 over the weekend.
Steve, I'm open to acquiring packs from the 60s, but don't avidly pursue them as my focus is on the 1970s. I do have a pair of PSA graded 67 cellos, including one with Grote on top.

The pack looks awesome!!

Oh sure, blame it on the pack sequencer LOL
Actually my family of five 1971 baseball packs is just missing a 5th series wax pack to complete me. Their cousins from the north, a series 1/2 yellow version and a series 3/4 red version just dont cut it.
P.S. Congrats on finding your white whale

That is quite an accomplishment Tim. That pack looks really nice and it is even better that you were able to obtain it from a fellow board member. Congrats!!! I will be over tomorrow night to help you rip open the '71 pack that's sitting in the GAI holder.

<< <i>Thanks again, guys! Doug, the GAI 71 pack is safe--if I'm going to rip something from 71, it's going to be a 54-card rack, not a 10-card wax pack, LOL.not that I'm planning on that either! >>
If you get the urge to rip a 1971 rack, you can always live vicariously through the pack I ripped...

Going for the '60-'69 run next?
Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's
Anthony, I probably missed the boat on the 60s run, as they don't come up for sale too often these days, and my focus has always been on 1970s packs as those were the packs I bought growing up. I do have a coupel 67 cellos though, and a 69 blue-wrapped 10c wax/cello, which is one of my favorite packs, actually.
Eric, the 71 cello was just as difficult to acquire if not more so, than the 71 wax pack, so that one is staying sealed, also, LOL!
Moran, I love the OPC packs, but have to agree with you, though the high series packs with the red bubble on the wrapper are pretty nice!

My run stops at '72. I want a '71, but am afraid of the price tag!
I am working on finding mine to catch you!
<< <i>Great job Tim. 71 wax is so hard to come by. Kinda wish I had kept mine.
Mark >>
I'm very happy that you didn't!
Congrats on the pickup Tim. Definitely a proper collection for that pack to reside in.
Congrats! And you're correct that's a least an eight. I completely forgot I have a 71 pack. Went and looked..it's a PSA 7 and urs is def nicer. Mine has a lower corner where the color is worn away to white, not torn at least. But side by side, urs is clearly a grade above mine. Will PSA regrade?
You should have told us you were looking for one. Could have def had mine. I'm not tied to any of it.
What are they going for anyways? Since I forgot I had it I'll probably sell it also. I feel u got an 8 for the price of a 7!
Congrats on the pick up!

With the 70's polished off, it's time to infringe upon Mike's domain and take on the 80's!

C'mon Tim, they look really cool...
blue-green-red, blue-green-red, blue-green-red, blue.
You'll have to break that self imposed 1983 barrier though.
