I wanna know what you collectors thinks is cooler and should be held onto...

This early 1700's pirate treasure net F details from PCGS because it was probably in some awesome shipwreck of the coast of North Carolina:

Or this measly old widget PCGS MS64DMPL:

Neither one of them does anything for me. The "treasure" coin is too far gone to be of interest and the 83-CC is just another Morgan dollar.

I would keep the Morgan dollar as I am a coin collector and the other item is interesting, but not something I collect. FYI, I do not collect Morgans either, but like a nice CC.

Do you have to sell one and only keep 1?
    I would keep both.

I think the pirate bit is cool, but would be nicer with more details....as is, still cool but not super cool.

The morgan is worth a little bit but, aside from DMPL, is just like HUNDREDS of MILLIONS of other morgans..... image

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

In this example I would take the Morgan, however if the 8 Real had some more meat on it (and not Details) I could be easily swayed.

I suspect the current population census makes the silver dollar more readily
    available than the pirate piece.

How many collectors have the silver dollar; how many the piece of silver?

It really depends on what you are looking for. The pirate treasure is really awesome and has a coolness factor to it. But, the Morgan is much easier to sell and to a broader market then the treasure. At the same time, the Morgan is easier to find should you decide you want one. So, in the end, I think I would keep the pirate treasure. And, I do collect Morgans, but I know I can pick up that particular date/grade at any time I wish.

Keep that nice looking cameo "cc" Morgan dollar. They are always saleable besides there is a lot of booty out there everyday somebody uncovers another treasure.

Given the choice presented by the OP, I'd keep the "pirate treasure".

In reality, I would not keep either one. There are too many coins out there that are far cooler than either of these.

Off the cuff, the pirate treasure is cooler because I've seen plenty of CC DMPL Morgans heretofore.

Which one should be held onto is only for you to decide. In my case, it would probably be "neither"
since there are far too many other coins that would be more complementary to my collection.

Since I collect neither of those types I'll go for the Morgan. There's always a Morgan collector to unload it on and even rare details items are hard to find a collector of.

I am not a big fan of either coin. The "pirate coin" or "cob" is fairly typical for this sort of thing. From what I have read, collectors should not condemn these coins too much because they have been recovered from shipwrecks. Virtually all of the survivors have come to us that way because virtually all of the pieces that made it back to Spain or some other destination were melted. In other words for these coins, it has been either a long dip in the ocean or a trip the melting pot.

The piece you have is typical for a sea salvage coin because it has been scrubbed up to a bright white color, which is not natural for a silver coin that is well over 300 years old. It's okay, but there are more natural looking example available, like this one. This one is unusual because it has a readable date, and it looks natural. It was recovered from a Spanish ship that foundered off the coast of Australia

I am less of a fan of the 1883-CC dollar. It's been my experience that this is the most common Carson City mint Morgan dollar. Although the piece does appear to partially mirrored surfaces, I see evidence of some fingerprints that might get worse in the future.

Therefore between the two I'd keep the Spanish cob, but nicer examples are available of each.

Based strictly on "coolness" alone, the pirate coin. (And I collect CC Morgans.)

I'm with 291fith, but of the 2 I would take the CC dollar.image

Probably top ten funniest things I've read on this board.

    I would keep the Morgan.

Neither. Sell both and buy something more distinctive that you like (you did ask for opinions image)

Not knowing what either one is worth, I would keep the DMPL. One of these days I will get one. Lol
