Are you sure this is not yours? A 67 in that holder with that color is a 500.00 coin to me. Crazy posting that with all the Buff nuts on here unless you are helping the seller. Edit to add I have a 1913 T1 MS65 with the same look...

Kindly put a bit higher value on my integrity. No it is not my coin.....at least not yet.
38-Ds are common as dirt... even in 67. While I would say this one has nice eye appeal, it is not a monster by any means IMO. I wouldn't go much higher...

I have seen rolls broken up with every one of them a gem or better. Bide your time and buy one at a show and don't get in a bidding war.

Good advice. I had put in one more bid at $220 and am now done.
I know this is 2014.........but 10 years ago 38Ds. I used to give MS66s away to friends. a 38D is a common coin, then again that is uncommon toning. That coin is real pretty. I understand, I understand, but stop at $360. Get one in hand at a show. Common date, uncommon toning, high grade. Nice coin.
So, it just hammered at $352.50 +BP. The market for nicely or unusually toned coins seems to be very strong. What is the toning premium on this coin,.....200%?
I hope someone on this forum will share this NEWP with so we can go full circle.
That coin on my 27" monitor looks darn nice at full magnification, the holder is very scratched though and that could lead to a bad look at a smaller size. I would still take the chance on sending it in for the plus.
<< <i>So, it just hammered at $352.50 +BP. The market for nicely or unusually toned coins seems to be very strong. What is the toning premium on this coin,.....200%? >>
Toned coins have often brought high premiums at auction. It could be more than 200% if the right bidders are present.
<< <i>I agree 38-Ds are common but get this put a bean on it and you got a good flipper. I like the steel blue color. >>
With a pop of over 1600 these aren't exactly scarce any more. If the coin were really that nice you'd sort of expect a bean or a + holder already. Seems to a number of rev ticks on the buffalo that could easily slide this into a 66 holder on a different day. A few obv tics as well though the reverse has more of them.
Probably got the 67 grade on blast as many of these do. Cracking this out of the holder and getting $350 could be difficult. At 2.5X current MS67 money this has to sticker.

This. Some pendejo paid over $400 for this coin and is buried in it. Six months ago, a guy was selling a roll of the 38 Ds at Long Beach for $50 each in PC 6 holders. Ten years ago, I picked up one of these with ice blue rim toning and gold centers on both obverse and reverse in a PC 6 OGH for $60. It had a tick in the midsection, hence the PC 6 grade. I upgraded the coin to a PC 7 holder. As RR wrote above, it upgraded because of its blast and color. Its surfaces are cleaner than the coin displayed.
I think getting a green bean on such a coin is a waste of time. Am not sure re a plus holder. Years ago, I've seen rolls of these coins, all in gem or supergrade. When I was in high school, a local dealer broke out a roll of them in front of me and was selling golden toned BU gems for $2 each.
Imo, this may be a $200 coin, a trifle more if you want to stretch for color. They are readily available. Some guy paid a $200 premium for bragging rights he won an auction. Auction houses and consignors love people like thisI. The underbidder should send him a "thank you" note.

If I were buying this coin as a collector and not a dealer flipper why would I care if a dealer would buy me out of it. What if the buyer bought the coin because he/she likes it, what ever happened to coin collecting for the sake of collecting coins because you like them?

Agree with you 100% John. Though most of the coins I buy are to resell, I also have a number of moderately priced pieces that I hold onto for a long time. They are generally common but very attractive.
The input here from everyone was appreciated and once I hit my max price on the coin, I was out.
<< <i>I tell everyone who will listen, we sooner forget paying too much for a coin, than we do the one we let get away. >>
I would say this slogan is more applicable in the case of coins that come along infrequently. The coin in question, while nice enough, is not one I would have stretched for at all, nor one I'd likely think back upon in the future.

Totally agree. This is too common to "get away."
<< <i>PCGS shows a $1345 price difference between 67 ($155) and 67+ ($1500). That's just stupid. >>
Also agree. At that level of perfection, the difference isn't so noticeable. We often forget that many of the world's most famous and valuable coins are less than 67 in grade.

'38-D nickels are nice to look at but dealers will not line up to buy from you when comes time to sell so plan on making a family heirloom out of it.
