NM-MT Condition Cards Description on eBay

I am considering purchasing baseball cards on eBay that are described as NM-MT in the item description. I would like to use them to put together a raw set. I am not very concerned about the minor flaws that would prevent a card from being considered mint condition. I am more concerned about the cards being pack fresh. I am considering the sellers New England Sports Cards and Nine 5 Sports Cards. Any advice would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

NESC has always been pack fresh on lots that I've purchased. There won't be many if an 9/10 quality cards. since 4SC has already been through them, but their descriptions are usually accurate. I can't speak for the other.

NESC sells "pack-fresh" cards in my experience. My understanding is they are an affiliate of 4SC, with NESC being the raw sales arm. Presumably the NESC raw cards are those that 4SC deemed not worthy of submitting. I would still expect NM-MT cards with typical centering variations. I don't have experience with the other company.

I've purchased from NESC and the cards tend to be very nice for raw cards on eBay.

Just remember that NM-MT is a PSA 8 grade-wise. If you're happy with that condition of a card, then you should be happy with NESC.

I've bought starter 70s hockey sets from NESC and the cards were in great shape, what would be considered Mint pre-grading ERA. Pack fresh for sure.
  • I think you will find that NESC has lots of PSA 9-quality cards.... simply because so many common cards from the '70s are barely worth the cost of grading nowadays. I am a '78 Topps collector-and my observation is that unless a common is low pop, there is NO financial upside to getting it graded unless it is far more likely than not PSA will grade the card a 10 (and even then there's not all that much upside).

They are usually reasonably accurate in their assessment the grade- but make sure you look at the scan carefully, too.

I've never even heard of Nine 5 Sports Cards.

If you assume a grade lower than NESC says you will be ok.
Like above said...don't expect many 10's the cards have all been sorted out.

    nice nmt/mt cards for sure

never heard of 9-5 but here is a link.

by the way-- buy the card not the seller's description.

You guys are awesome. Thank you so much for replying to my question so quickly. I would definitely be content with a raw card condition that resembles a PSA 8 grade. I think that I will give NESC a try. Thanks again.

The one downside with NESC (if you're dealing with lots) is that they scan only a sample of the cards and will not give you the card numbers in the lot. I know it would be a huge administrative task for them, but I've refrained from buying from them because I have no idea what I'd be getting, other than what is represented in the title description.

Thanks for the advice Lahmejoon. I noticed that they do that in their listings. I plan on purchasing single cards that are listed as either MINT or NM-MT in the description. I am only in the market for cards that are pack fresh and that I can use to fill a raw set. It sounds to me like NESC is a great source. Thanks again.

If you are buying a single card from NESC they will ship in a card save and a plain white envelope.

Thanks Pmkay. Hopefully it will arrive undamaged. The shipping appears to be free so I can't complain.
