Thankfully I get to figure out what kind of coin to get my new son (August Christopher) for his birt

First of all, for my first two children (girls) I found something numismatic to celebrate their birth, put a note in it and placed it in the safe deposit box to give to theme when they get older.

SORRY FOR THE LONG POST, KIND OF THERAPY RIGHT NOW. ALSO WOULD REALLY LIKE HELP IN PICKING A COIN. Thinking about something with Augustus Caesar with his name being August (GUS). However, I know next to nothing about Roman era coins.

Well today I can happily say I get to find something for my little son. His name is August Christopher and amazingly he traumatized his parents with his birth even more than his sister a few years ago. This was a challenge because she came so quick we had to deliver her along the side of the road half way to the hospital. We planned to do this one correct and got to the hospital early, were having a completely normal delivery at 4:30am and then suddenly everything fell apart. August (Gus) came out with the cord wrapped tightly around his neck. It was cut and I was ecstatic about
having a son (we did not find out what we were having and I already have two girls, was really hoping for a son), the joy lasted about 1 minute before we realized he was blue, limp and have no response. The nurses started to work on him and we were assured everything would be fine in a minute. My wife is a Cardiac intensive care nurse for childrens hospital and she eventually realized things were not good when the nurses were doing CPR, calling a code and everyone started to freak out. The next 30-40 minutes were horrible. weak heart rate, occasional gurgles, nurses doing CPR, nurses unable to get an airway, nurses crying and to top it off, one of the doctors told me about 20 minutes in that all I could do was pray.

Luckily the code was called, a team from childrens hospital showed up within minutes (tough when your wife is friend with most of the responding team). He was wisked away to Childrens hospital and we were left to wonder for the next couple of hours until I could get there and meet the team. Took a couple of hours because I was so distressed that I got lost in a town I have lived in for 20 yrs. Amazingly by the time I showed up he had started to breath and had turned back to a healthy color. Next they told me they had to figure out what had happened and that could take a while. They thought it might take a few days of supplemental oxygen and then a couple of days of brain scans. Well Gus was having none of that, within 3 hrs he had pulled every tube out of himself, was breathing and acting normally. He was supposed to have 24-48 hours of EEG to check his brain but within a few hours they said everything looked so perfect that they discontinued.

By rounds yesterday (24 hrs after he arrived) the team had decided everything looked perfect, he had passed every test and lab they could think of and now we should be able to take him home in a day or so. More than one Dr has said is was a small miracle.

SO, with his name being August what about something from Augustus Caesar. What are my options? Any recommendations

thanks
Chris

Amazing story. That's a full length movie in two paragraphs.

    I agree.........a miracle.

I can relate as our son suddenly arrived 7 weeks early and was immediately whisked away to a hospital 25 miles away while we were left behind.
It was a hopeless helpless feeling. It all eventually worked out but wow.

Congratulations and continued health to Gus and your family.

I would suggest a 1914 D or S double eagle, designer August us Saint-Gaudens. One hundred years before his birth, so you have the 14 in the date.

My daughter had the cord wrapped, quite the odd birth, few days in hospital too. Happy, healthy, vibrant almost ten year old now. Congrats!

Big Congrats Fishteeth. What a beautiful little fella.

Coins of Augustus are plentiful and I'm sure you'll want to shop for a nicer one then I have. (Although I do love mine)
I bought this from member CIVITAS of Civitas Galleries.

Wow Chris. I'm very happy to hear things turned out as well as they possibly could have in the end.

I like the St Gaudens suggestion of a 1914-D

The miracle of birth. I am very happy to hear that August Christopher is doing well. As Christopher means Christ-bearer, I would suggest a Saint Christopher medal or something like this:

All miracles are big. God had His hands on everyone during that time.

Glad everything is going well and you all are headed home after a short stay. I vividly remember you telling us of your last surprise birth in the back of an ambulance. One exciting/scary birth like that is enough for anyone to go thru once, much less 2X.

My my wife had a scheduled c-section in Dec 2012 with the birth of our first child (a scheduled c-section because of uterine complications/surgery a few years before). My wife experienced some complications with the pre-surgery/epidural process that morning that caused her BP and pulse to skyrocket causing the baby's vitals to go awry. The cord was wrapped twice around my daughter's neck when the Dr. cut her open and pulled the head out. If she had not had the uterine surgery a few years before, she would not have been a candidate for an automatic c-section, therefore she would have carried her another 1-1/2 weeks to her due date and the Dr. said that there was an extremely high possibility that we would have lost her.

I said that to say this, you never know what God has planned for you when you go thru stuff. It's a possibility that if you all hadn't have gone thru that with your 2nd daughter, you might have not been pushed to get there early the morning your wonderful son was born and have all the right people in place for God to work through.

Congrats Chris. Awesome little man right there!
