That was a powerful commercial. Commercials like that will continue to add to his legendary status. It looks like he is going to be groomed to be an icon the way Michael Jordan is. OR maybe I am being swept up in the marketing of his brand.
I'm building a 1968 and a 1970 Topps set. I have lots of 1970s and 1960s to offer in trade.

I'm also a Yankee hater, especially Jeter... but as a baseball fan I really respect Jeter. He's been a great player and role model, and one of those rare examples of a player sticking with the same team for his entire career... especially in today's free agency market. Of course, it's easy to want to stay in New York, but still... he'll go down as one of the "Mount Rushmore" Yankees. Hats off, indeed.

Whole lot of respect for Jeter from this Red Sox fan but to say Mount Rushmore for the Yankees means putting him ahead of Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio and Mantle. I just don't think that's a crackable group.

You don't have to put him ahead of those guys ... Mt. Rushmore has 4 faces ... just add a fifth.

  • Great spot. My one and only time I went to old Yankee Stadium with my dad I made sure I got a picture of Jeter at bat.

Great ad and even though I'm a Met fan, he is undoubtedly a great player and a class act.

All those championships, hits, etc.? Sure he can.

From a Red Sox fan, I would put Rivera and Jeter both up there with Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, and Mantle. Sure, those four were icons of their era, but weren't Rivera and Jeter the same from their era? I respect the way they both conducted themselves and that they stayed with the same team their whole career.

  • Just caught this spot off a tweet by tiger woods on cbs sports - really awesome. Truly the end of an era - We are lucky to have seen this guy play.

Will someone please take ARod off that list!!! I'd put Balboni on that list before A-Roid!

I knew Jeter would be a star after I "dumped" all of his rookies I had on the cheap back in 1995:$2 for the TOPPS and $5 for the 93 Stadium Club Murphy Dome rookies. You have to admire him for his play, staying with one team, and him staying clear of controversy. Where did those 20 years go?

Jeter definitely deserves all these retirement-year accolades
He almost won a batting title one year, and finished runner-up in the MVP voting another year
How many players can look back on their career and say that?

I agree 100%. A Roids has been more of a detriment to the team the last decade then anything else, even stirring the pot at one point with the media about not getting along with Jeet off the field. I can guarantee one thing, if there was ever any problems or animosity between those two at any time, it's because of Rodriguez' antics and attitude. Alex is for Alex. Joe Torre touched on it a little bit in his book also.

I have bashed A Roids numerous times on here, and have been told it's probably jealousy, the women etc. Ok yes it would be nice to have a contract for 250 million. It would be nice to get any girl you would ever want, but the fact is the guy is a goon and he cheated for the majority of his career if not all of it, and has brought so much negative press on the Yankees since being in NY, that he will be hard to one-up when it comes to negative publicity.

I would put Andy Hawkins or Hensley Muelens on that list before A Roids. I'm very very lucky that I got a chance to see Jeter play all these years. It will not be the same anymore that's for sure. I'm 30 years old, and Jeter has been around for pretty much my entire childhood into early adulthood. With Jeter retiring, it's the end of an era, I truely hope he is successful in anything he decides to do from here on out. He will be greatly missed and I hope they aren't quick to put the "captain" moniker on anyone else for a long time.
