Happy 4th of July / Guess the Grade on a Newp

I thought it might be fun to post a guess the grade thread on this coin on the 4th, what do you think?

After all it is the Monarch from which we were declaring our independence and this coin could well have been circulating in the colonies during the revolution. Happy fourth of July Mad King George!

ps. Back in this era how much money was a Guinea? Was it equivalent to $100 today, $1000 today, etc...??? I'm assuming it wouldn't be a coin that your average Colonial Joe would have in his pocket but is it realistic to think that the likes of G. Dub or Franklin could have toted it around?

Wonderful coin- I like the overall look. This is a coin has terrific fields which helps the grade. The wear on the high points becomes problematic. I see the TPG grade as 35.

I would have thought VF, a Guinea was 21 shillings back in the day and a pound was 20 shillings. In the late 18th/ early 19th C. this was about a weeks pay for a bricklayer in northern England, unskilled labor made about 11-12 shillings per week. Most agricultural workers made around one shilling per day.

Hard to argue with the consensus, VF35

EF40 likely but agreed belongs in a 35 holder for the wear!

Weak strike responsible for most of the "wear" IMO. I'm stuck twixt 40 and 45 - I'll go with the later when the blowup is factored in.
