Home Trading Cards & Memorabilia Forum

We have a taker, thanks!

He and I had commented on alot of the same threads, but hadnt even exchanged one PM or email. Then about a week ago he messaged me out of the blue and told me he had seen something on eBay that made him think of me, and had purchased it and had it shipped directly to me. I was floored, but even more excited when I opened up the package last night! It was a complete box (48 packs?) of 1981 Topps Coca-Cola Red Sox cards! I found 3 cellos that were well sealed and had Yaz showing and I set those aside. Out of the others, I'm hoping to collate 3 full sets: one for me and one each for both of my sons.

Slum said he was "paying it forward" after a board member made a kind gesture towards him, and I look at this as my opportunity to do the same. So here's the deal: I'll pay close attention to any sequencing patterns in hopes of completing the 3 sets with as little ripping as possible. If I succeed in having a good amount of packs left over, then I'll ship them free to board members on a first come, first serve basis. If there are few or no packs left, I'll find something else in my collection as a free prize for some sort of forum contest. Stay tuned.....

I agree that Steve is a great guy. We have done a couple deals and PM each other 2 or 3 times a week just to chat.

Seriously though both Steve and Dan are are great guys and I always enjoy their posts. Always awesome to see guys that "get it" help their fellow collectors out.

Dan--You're welcome! Like I said in my PM to you, I'm just glad you liked it. I was hoping you didn't already have it. It should be fun for you and your kids to put the sets together. There should be plenty of cards to make three sets as long as the collation isn't a disaster. I am teaching my 6 year old how to collate his basketball sets out of the boxes he breaks. I bought him a one of those big card boxes and we go through it a couple days a week and sort the cards.

Mike and James--Thanks for the shout outs. I'm sure we'll be exchanging PM's later this week.

Ryan--That was a cool deal. I didn't know you were on the East Coast when we were cutting that deal. That was a late nighter on your end! Glad to hear it wasn't for bail money. I figured, but I didn't want to ask just in caseimage

Quick shout out to Itzagoner. Not to hijack your thread Dan, but Jeff was the one who got all this started by sending me this sweet pack with my all time favorite player on it (Will Clark). So thanks to him. There are a lot of really good guys on this board. It's been good getting to know everyone.

LOL! Better than spending $200,000 on Russell Wilson jersey cards and not a dime on an English tutor!

OK, so I'm done ripping. There were more condition issues than I was expecting, so I'm not sure if somebody will want the leftovers. After making 3 sets (me and my 2 sons) and grabbing a couple extra Yaz cards and unopened packs, here is what's left:

52 loose cards (multiple cards of everybody but Eckersley)
    2 unopened packs, Eck showing
2 unopened packs, HOFer Tony Perez showing
    28 header/ad cards

These 80 cards and 4 packs are available for free to the first person who PMs me. Again, there are some condition issues, but if you don't worry about that you can make several raw sets, which include 4 HOFers. If nobody claims these within 24 hours, I'll try to come up with a giveaway that's more enticing.

One time bump. I know it isn't the greatest lot of cards in the world, but they're FREE to the first person who PMs me they want them.

  • Steve (Slum22), of would love to buy that 79 bb wax box back if you still have it. Chances are you don't, but if you do and are willing to deal, I would like to make an offer.

I was thinking of Dan Bessette recently - we are both fond of Topps Venezuela cards. Seemed like a good board member and mild-mannered commenter. I wonder why he got the ban hammer.

Ryan, it is great to hear from you. I can't believe you pulled up this thread! What a blast from the past. Sorry, I don't have that 79 box anymore. I think I sold it a couple years ago. Hope you are doing well.
