Hello Gentlemen. (And ladies if/where applicable)
Long time lurker, first time poster. Recently have leapt back into the hobby from a roughly 20 year hiatus as a way to relieve stress and relax on the weekends. My primary interests are; oddballs, junk wax (if there is any better way to spend a free Saturday than; pot of coffee+mlb.tv+pipe+box of junk wax to rip, I don't wanna know about it), and I have a bit of a soft spot for Topps Heritage. I've become a master of the Fairfield repack; I know most regard it as a waste of $4, but I think it's the best low-cost rip that's out there, and have pulled a large amount of interesting stuff from them.
I would love to be into 50's and 60's vintage, unfortunately it'll likely have to wait for someday when I can better afford it. In the meantime, I would be more than happy to take any tips from vets on how to best get the ball rolling on vintage set collecting.
More than anything, I'll just never get tired of seeing/talking about what people are collecting, even when it's not my personal cup of tea.
Look forward to meeting you all and picking brains/swapping notes!

I love the oddball stuff too and it tends to be under represented here, so I hope you will share your favorites often.
You may be surprised how affordable a lot of the vintage oddball stuff can be, especially in raw mid-grade.
I'm a football guy who finds myself envious of how much great, affordable oddball stuff there is on the baseball side of the hobby.

Collect what u like that way it stays fun.
There is always going to be someone out there with far more $ to spend...and post a recent addition of high graded pricey cards.
Don't let any of that intimidate you.
So just be yourself and share what u want when u want.

I collect football but I can certainly appreciate a good baseball card when I see one. I like your Montreal Expos avatar, too.
Your pledge name is Hard Harry.
Welcome to the boards!
you'll never be able to outrun a bad diet
As far as a tip, see if you have any local shows within your area and attend. Meet fellow collectors who enjoy the hobby as much as you, if not more. Also get a subscription to VCP (www.vintagecardprices.com) as I find it to be a very useful tool/resource when deciding on what may be a good price for a graded card that you may have interest in.
