I found out the angled reeding is patented in the USA.
The changing image is also in use by Taiwan and does not appear to be patented.
I asked about curved reeding, but the guide seemed to think that was too far out there.
They have a 47 prefecture series going similar to our 50 states. Each is on a 500 yen coin($5).
The changing Image there is a small 47 one way and 60 another in a small center portion
Each coin's "DNA" is recorded into a centralized database as part of production process at the mint:
