Combining three things i like in this post; crows, comics and silver. I watched this one on ebay for 3 months before the price dropped and I bought...
I took it to a local reputable jeweler who told me it's likely quite old. He's willing to do a little touch up of the details but we both agreed to leave it as original as possible. After the touch up, he's taking 15 grams of Alaska gold nuggets I left him and making a pair of 18k stamped pendants of it. (The silver pendant weighs 6 grams)
He also repeated a story I had heard variations of before-- he was working for a large jewelry shop and the workers would brush off their canvas aprons when going out front to meet customers. When it was time to replace the carpet, he convinced his boss to send the carpet to a refiners. They got back over 14 ounces of gold dust!

Hmm! Same seller, too. Thanks for the link!
I just got this back last week. Here's one of the original ones next to the gold recasting with the additional engraving. There was enough gold (14 grams) to make 2 pendants.
It wasn't exactly cheap, but I'm not looking to make money or anything, or even wear the things. It's just neat to be a small part of a creation process.

<< <i>Refiners, eh? I'd like to see the looks on their faces when the carpet delivery boys arrived. Wouldn't it be easier to vacuum? dust buster? >>
Wouldn't vacuuming over the years pull up all of the gold dust?

Yep. That was my entire point. Way easier to bring a little vacuum bag to your local refiner, rather than remove and schlep a carpet.

<< <i>As expected, that looks very good in gold..... I like it....what are the dimensions? Cheers, RickO >>
It's just a smidgen larger than a US quarter and weighs just over 7 grams.
