Home Metal Detecting

Went metal detecting in my driveway

Went metal detecting on Monday, but didn't have to go far. I dropped a screw in my driveway and it bounced off the pavement. The screw was dark colored, which made it even harder to find. Took out my trusty pinpointer and found it within moments in the mulch nearby. Most valuable thing I've found in a long time image

Yep... I have used the MD or pinpointer to find lost/dropped items in the grass/weeds a few times.....as to the 'long time' between finds, either you have just not been going out or you need some new territory..... Good luck.... Cheers, RickO

Sadly, a bit of both! image

Used my metal detector to find roofing nails after the roofer told me he had them all with a magnet. I saved them to show him later. Had over a hundred. Did the same at the daughters house where they also sawed off the gutters and found gutter spikes all over the place that had been cut in half. Nice shrapnel of lawnmowers.

At least you didn't get screwed...or wait...maybe you did but that's a good thing?

Supposedly there are metal detector apps for phones that can detect iron (megnetic) objects. It might slightly nudge the needle at a quarter inch.

I have heard of this.... however, I do think it would be minimally effective at best... Cheers, RickO

Too funny! My frustration at originally losing the screw was compounded by (1) me trying to load 4 bikes onto the bike rack on our SUV, and (2) some bozo door-to-door salesman walking up and trying to get chatty with me while I was struggling with the bikes. I about bit the guy's head off I was in such a mood.

PPC: that is nuts, finding so many nails in the grass! I have had roofing estimators tell me that before, that they "pick them all up with a magnet". Your story makes me wonder how many don't even bother.

A lady that used to work for me was married to a roofer..... at one company party, he told me that that is a standard line, but most only pick up in exposed areas such as driveways or dirt.... and in dirt they often rake them over. image Cheers, RickO
