BST Section of the Forum

Didn't the BST section use to have a rule about keeping all of your items for sale listed in one thread? I have looked but can't find any rules for BST. I am seeing quite a few members with a different post for each item they want to sell.

There's a big phat locked post at the top of the forum with all your rules. It's in BST forum, of all places.

those are rules of conduct. there used to be a reminder about multi-threading the BST, but it was removed some time ago.

it's all about courtesy. like waiting in line at a Who concert. image

Did you take a minute to read it before posting this message? I am not the smartest person here but I'm not that dumb.

Far as I know it's more courtesy/convention than outright rule, but yes, I have noticed that lately as well. It is starting to clog up that forum a bit.

look on the bright side - more threads, more stuff.
  • I try to keep my buy thread and sell/trade thread separate
But between them I keep them running
No body reads them but I follow rules image

I actually prefer to see seperate listings (I'm not talking a bunch at one time). Some people have one thread with several (hundreds?) of pages - I can never tell if the stuff on the first post is currently available or if I have to look at their later posts.

Honestly, the few times I post on the BST, I just start a new thread.

I may be in the minority, but I find it kind of confusing to have old BST threads updated with new items for sale. In those cases, most of the responses are about items that have long since been sold, and any discussion of new items is on the last page (which may be many pages later). I do agree though that all items currently for sale should be in 1 thread.

Any time I list new items for sale I edit the very first message to add the new items. I also edit the title to show the newly listed items and I bump the thread to the top. I agree with Mattingly. I keep sell and buy threads seperate. Thanks for most of the responses so far.

Every time I read something like the quote above, I am reminded of a movie quote:

"Barbossa: First, your return to shore was not part of our negotiations nor our agreement so I must do nothing. And secondly, you must be a pirate for the pirate's code to apply and you're not. And thirdly, the code is more what you'd call "guidelines" than actual rules. Welcome aboard the Black Pearl, Miss Turner . "

When i joined 7 years ago it was pretty well known that you only bumped your BST threads once a week as a courtesy to other posters. If you bumped more often you were reminded pretty quick by other members and usually not so nicely. Now it seems some people bump their threads everyday, some even call it a daily bump.
  • Sometimes when I sell, maybe after a few bumps if I can’t get it moving or have a new item that I am adding after the other has sold, I will create a new thread to start fresh but will make sure NOT to also bump up the old one at the same time. To me, it’s more about being courteous to others who are trying to sell as well. I don’t believe it’s necessary to create 2 threads and also bump BOTH threads when everything can fit into one. To see back to back threads where one reads "For Sale" and the other says "Looking For" by the same person is just ridiculous. No need to be a pig.

Its a free advertisement for your stuff so I would just list my stuff and bump it once per day, no big deal right? Dont bother worrying about what other people are doing.

So far there doesn't seem to be a consensus here, but since I posted 3 last night I'm probably one of the "culprits." As soon as they drop off page one, I'll be happy to consolidate them. Sorry for the inconvenience.

However I don't see a problem with bumping once per day and won't start doing it less frequently. Occasionally I miss a day and I agree that multi bumps per day would be overkill. But once a day seems fair.

I think it is an unspoken rule. On a side note, I probably have 10-20 BST threads, but only one "active" thread (the others are >2 months old). I think it's alright to have multiple threads as long as only one is "active".
