Nickel with Flag

found today (old, crude engraving on 1940-D nickel).....reminded me of:

A rumor was partly to blame. Word spread that Jefferson nickel production had been suspended because the coin’s designer, Felix Schlag, had forgotten to put a flagpole and flag on Monticello’s dome. Treasury officials denied the story, but they only managed to focus more attention on the so-called “omission.”

It's true! All the "missing flagpole" Jeffersons are errors, and when word gets out prices are going to skyrocket!

I like it too!! But after reading these responses, I think I'll get me a flag stamp and go to town on some uncirculated Jefferson's. I think there may be a market for these!!

I think the flag was left out so there would be room to put big mint marks on the war nickels.
