Trade Dollar and or all experts...Question

How is the market for Proof 62/62/Cam Trade dollars? Weak, Strong, Flat? Any dollar increase potential long term on these?

The problem I see with many of these is they aren't pretty - either hairlines or borderline impaired. The attractive ones sell fast and are an "affordable" way to own a low mintage issue but I don't see them outperforming the overall coin market. Those who seriously collect TD proofs want nice gems not 62s.

Trade Dollars, in general, is a weak series. Despite the fondness of a few of us, the price has been pretty depressed. Look at GEM MS 77-S and 78-S -- they are just under $10k for an average 65.

Low grade proofs, even in CAM? No way. PF63's are abundant for every date minus the 84/85.

As OrigDan suggested, don't focus on the grade but rather the eye appeal. Then, you *might* make out ok when you sell.

Trade dollars tend to be a 'niche' collecting area... with a sub area of chop marked coins.... As said above, high grade examples pull the big dollars, lower grades not so much. Cheers, RickO

I would avoid 60-63 proofs like the plague personally, no matter the eye appeal. In this market you can buy some pretty spectacular business strike Trades that are far more rare (and more eye appealing in my opinion). I would especially avoid proof only dates, but that's just my opinion.

Seems like a flatline in the mid proof grades for 6 or 7 years.

Sooooo, ricko, are you suggesting that TDN is a niche collector? But the best ones tend to be toned and not blast white, as is the normal with Morgans. Are they not a distinct market??

I have seen some nice proof Trades recently, they have a few hairlines yes, and they are not 5 or 6 figure coins either. I think they are kinda cool looking in Cam.

I wouldn't say all 62-63 are bad, I've seen some nice ones and sold a couple recently on the BST.
