Johnny Football's rookie cards will be in a Cleveland uniform.

Basically Cleveland traded Trent Richardson for Johnny Football, as that was the pick that Cleveland used to trade to 22 & get him. That trade had a lot of detractors here at the time. Now? I do that deal 6 days a week & twice on Sundays.

I think he's a dynamic player, but I have reservations about his style of play given his size at the NFL level. Look what happened to RGIII in one season and Manziel is smaller than he is.

Yes, but Richardson has been unimpressive in both Cleveland and Indianapolis. Cleveland wins that trade certainly financially as Manziel will sell lots of tickets and garner lots of attention. Whether he lives up to his billing will remain to be seen. It is good for him that he fell as he can use this as motivation. He has a lot of talent on that team. A lot of defensive pieces, a great wideout and an up and coming tight end. He should have a good opportunity to succeed. I am not a Cleveland fan, but if I am, I agree with the post above. This is a trade you do 10 times out of 10.

Not saying it wasn't a good trade, or that Johnny Football won't be a marketing bonanza--obviously he will be an NFL sensation. But my point was more about whether a guy that's 5' 11" and 200 lbs, whose game relies fairly significantly on him scrambling out of the pocket and taking off downfield, will fare physically in a league where defenders are bigger and faster than anything he's seen before.

I wish him well, and hope he plays well, but I'm sure Browns ownership and coaches will cringe just a little bit when he takes off out of the pocket. RGIII was sensational utilizing that style of play in his rookie season, but never fully recovered last season from the toll it took.

I bet that's exaggerated as well. I can't get over how small he looks even in shoulder pads. He's a little wee man out there lol

    Johnny should call Tim Couch.

What for? To ask him how to suck?

I don't disagree with you Tim. I think he certainly has a greater likelihood of injury based on his style and his size. I believe the OP is a Cleveland fan. So after years of Brandon Weeden, Derek Anderson (minus the fluke 8 games or so he had one year), Colt McCoy, Tim Couch, etc. if Manziel had any season approaching RG III's rookie season I am sure he and all the Browns fan would sign up for that.

I think the AFCN is not the best division for him. Lots of bad weather games, high wind (needs strong arm) and a division packed with very physical defenses. He may end up being the next Tarkenton but I'm not going to be buying up his RCs, especially with the New Browns' history.
  • And Johnny Football's rookie cards will be HOT HOT HOT!!!
I have no collecting direction. I just buy stuff!
  • Maybe he will sign autographs at this year's National.

This is one of the dumbest comments I have ever heard. You can say he will not be a good player because of his size, arm strength, attitude, etc., but to claim that other teams passed on him is the reason he wont be good is absurd. I am sure we can rattle off a list of 100s of players that have fallen for various reasons (Randy Moss and Dan Marino are 2 big ones that immediately come to mind). My 2 cents.

I have a bunch of 2014 football pre-ordered. I plan to sell all of the Johnny Football cards that I pull. I think he will have a decent start to his career but I'm not convinced the Cleveland Browns can build a winner.

Ask how passing on Russell Wilson is working for Miami and Jacksonville or even Cleveland (the team that drafted him). I am not a Cleveland fan or a Manziel fan, but I have heard the argument today that teams have so much information now and passing on him is a sign he will fail. The draft is in exact. We don't know and they don't know. If Belicheck and the Patriots really knew Brady was gonna be this good they would have drafted him in the first or second round. Same with Seattle and Russell Wilson and Montana and their teams. The truth is those teams got lucky they took a chance on the right player. We will see if Cleveland will be so lucky.

I don't think I said he wouldn't be good, but even the commentators seemed struck by the fact he wasn't taken by some teams who needed the position...again, just my opinion...stay classy...

Agree that AFC North competition and conditions will be tough for him. All things considered, though, it is looking like Trent Richardson is becoming a bust, so this trade made sense for Cleveland overall. And to think I pulled a Trent Richardson auto from a pack of 2012 Topps Chrome when it was new and sold it for $55 on eBay. Sure glad I got what I did from it at the time.

How many teams passed on drafting Tom Brady again?

I am in no way remotely implying that Johnny is another Brady, just saying good QB's get picked late too.

Also, some teams who drafted ahead of Cleveland had other more pressing positional needs than QB.

Cleveland....where high drafted QB's go to fade into obscurity

I was OK with the pick at 22....wouldn't have been if it was higher. I was hoping they'd get Watkins, and I still think that with all the pics they had and the way the 1st round turned out that they could have pulled it off. And now with the news on Gordon and STILL not a WR chosen yet in this draft it's leaving a lot of people scratching their heads.

Richardson has turned out to suck in Indy..not any better there than he was in Cleveland. I eat my words from last year....I was one of many thought that Cleveland was crazy at the time. It turned out that was a good move....maybe the best thing the "One and out" regime pulled off.

As for Manziel I'm not getting excited. We've been so horrible at drafting since coming back to the league that I cringe when Goodell gets ready to unveil the pick....kind of like I did when Kosar would drop back to pass the last couple of years he was in Cleveland.
I'm a big Nolan Ryan fan OK???!!!

Looks like there's good money with a quick flip in these type of players but long term your better off investing in a .10% CD.image

The Patriots drafted their Aaron Rodgers - Jimmy Garoppolo. I expect a huge bump when his NFL cards are out.

We welcome Manziel with open arms too!

Finally, for a couple hours, the Browns had a promising future. Then reality struck....or went up in smoke. Either way.
