Went to a show in California today run by the local club. I must say that for a local club with of course a much smaller bourse than FUN or Baltimore, this was a very well run show. There were some great displays (including one of toning which was excellent) and many activities for kids such as a treasure hunt and building a starter collection of Lincoln cents.
There were about 50 tables which should have satisfied the appetite of all but the most discriminate collector. Lots of slabbed Morgans and type in 2x2s but very little 90% (maybe it was all sold on Friday?) Raw Morgans were $28-32. I didnt see anyone buy any. Listened to one dealer trying to convince a customer to pay $10 for silver Kennedy halves saying the mint was going to issue a new Kennedy coin and these were now worth more. One guy had Maple leafs for $22 (on sale he said), not a bad deal but not a steal either. Another had Sunshine rounds at spot +$3. I told him I could get rounds for less than a buck over through online dealers. He mentioned he didnt like online dealers. LOL
There was some foreign gold at melt and there was an Abigail Adams $10 in PCGS MS70 for $700, which I almost bought, but it wasnt "First Strike" so apparently it was "less worthy" and I passed.
1/10oz AGE were $140 to $200. The guy who had them priced at $200 said the coins were GEM UNC MS70's if I were to send them in. I commented that gold is gold, and that was the end of that conversation. I did buy one at $140 from another dealer though.
Must have been my lucky day as my name was drawn from a hat and I won a 1oz silver bar as a door prize. Overall the show was very well organized and I commend the promoters and club members. "I'll be baack."
