<< <i>One of two things likely happened: 1. Some perishable package leaked onto yours, and rather than re-bagging it like they do for damaged packages, they chose to destroy it and take the insurance hit, or 2. Someone had the scanner on the wrong setting, and the package will show up shortly. >>
First of all, I hope this turns out OK for you. I am curious what the shipping origin and final destination are. I know packages can take a circuitous route at times. Just curious if the timeline of your notification would indicate something happening close to the packages origin or some where enroute. Good luck with it all.
<< <i>This should be fun to hear about. Here is my tracking on some gold coins sent registered. I am sure the shipper will love to see this!!!
5/3 update: Tracking shows a scan in San Francisco last night. A weird scan since SF is 100 miles from me and registered should only get scanned once at my PO. The Ebay transaction has been cancelled and I was refunded. I sent a message to the seller today that we need to talk! >>
I've had any number of registered packages get scanned more than once [other than a receipt and departure] at the same location.
<< <i> Aside from timing I am not sure how quick they would be to update the system and know what was on the specific truck. But they must have a way to know those things.
Lots of what ifs on this one, just a weird scenario.
I was issued a refund from the seller, who oddly doesnt seem that upset. I would be going nuts as the shipper. >>
I expect that the sealed bag has a manifest that contains the tracking numbers for all of the packages in the bag. I expect too that in their internal tracking system, they note when it was loaded onto a specific truck and who signed for it. It's also possible that the truck door has a seal that better be intact upon arriving at the destination.
<< <i>The seller contacted me, package destroyed so it sounds like someone stole the coins. Very unsettling to have that happen to a registered package. I will get refunded, he will file insurance claim. $2800 in gold gone to the PO. >>
I'm just glad it was $2800 worth of gold rather than a $2800 rare coin.

did it ever arrive anywhere non-PO ?
<< <i>The package arrived on 5/5. It was in perfect shape, contents were fine. >>
Glad you got the package

Did you try to amuse the PO with the story?
