I am hoping somebody has run across this baseball in the past and can give any information they may have. It appears that it is the no hit ball from Rex Barney's no hit game back in 1948. On Sept. 9, 1948 he no hit the Giants at the Polo Grounds, but any information would be appreciated. Also, if you know a good place to get this type of information, that would be helpful also. Thanks in advance, Mike

neat item......how did you acquire it?

It was said of Rex Barmey (who was very fast & wild) that if "high & outside" was a strike, Barney would be in the Hall of Fame.

He also was the PA announcer for the Orioles during the 80's-90's

    Give that fan a contract.
  • I just purchased this ball at the latest Sterling auction, and from what I understand, he had a heck of a fast ball but just could not locate it. He did have a good year in 1948, 15 wins I believe including the no-no. As a long time PA announcer in Baltimore, I believe he was a fan favorite and not only coined the phrase Quitcrab mentioned, but also "Give that fan an error"
I tried gameuseduniverse.com but my security program gave me a warning message for the site so I didn't pursue that. Thank you all for your input, I am still hoping with all the knowledge of our board members, that somebody has ran across the ball in the past.
  • I am bumping this tonight for a couple of reasons, but mainly because I am still hoping somebody has some information on this ball. I also wanted to give a little credit to Sterling Auctions because after I had paid, they refunded me $4 saying shipping was a little less than they figured! How often does that happen?

As far as how my research is coming, I have contacted Baseball's Hall of Fame, Baltimore Orioles, LA Dodgers, Wall Moon, plus a ton of googling without much help so far. The Orioles were very nice & contacted an old friend of Rex Barney, but he had no knowledge of the ball. I am still waiting for some other responses.
