My turn to show off some unopened wax.

After 30 years of collecting cards I think I've become addicted to unopened product. In the past when I bought a box I had to open it right away. I never thought I'd be a collector of unopened as I new I could not keep it intact. Well, after I bought 2 boxes of 1981 donruss in August and put them on the dresser I was hooked. I sold off a couple of high grade PSA sets and have not turned back. Surprisingly I dont have an itch to open any of these boxes. Anyways, I hope you enjoy the pics as I have enjoyed seeing others unopened on these boards.

Very impressive collection, especially for such a short time.... all that in less than a year?!?!?

There are some toughies in there too.

Any method to your collection (i.e. range of years) or just anything you come across that seems a good buy?

Thanks! Yes everything has been purchased since august. I just try to buy what catches my eye and is a good deal. I'd like to try to get all the early 80's Topps, Donruss, Fleer in Cello, Rack, wax.

Very cool collection. And very impressive too. I started my unopened collection around the same time you did, maybe a couple months earlier. I am hooked too. What kind of wax trays are in front of the Desert Storm boxes. I think I can identify most of the wax boxes, what years are the football and baseball cello boxes you've got in the picture? Also, where do you get most of your stuff: eBay, BST, BBCE, other? Thanks for sharing and keep posting updates. I will try to throw up an update of my stuff here soon too.

I can help with the football cello boxes.

    - Yellow = 1987
    - Red = 1986
    - Blue = 1984
    - Green = 1982

I think the wax trays are 1978 Superman movie cards?

Great start to a collection, but there's not nearly enough hockey in that picture yet!

Congratulations Mike!!! That is an awesome haul for less than a year. I used the same strategy as you regarding collecting unopened boxes where I would just pick up stuff that I thought was a good deal at the time which helped the collection grow quickly. Then as prices went up on items I loaded up on, I would sell them in order to fill holes in my collection. Of course, trying to explain to my wife why I needed 7 1981 Topps wax boxes wasn't the easiest sell job. image

Where did you get most of those boxes? Some have the BBCE wrap but quite a few do not.
    Thanks,

Very nice, looks like 2 months worth of ripping to me image I see you snuck some 60s unopened in there with the Fleer Iron-Ons. What is the 'brick' on top of the vending on the far right?

That looks like a "brick" of 1980 Topps football cello packs that I saw on Ebay a couple months ago.

Definitely good eye on the 1980 cello brick. I ended up paying $250.00 for it.
  • Geez, now I know why I can't get my hands on much 81 football image.

    Very impressive, congrats!
  • Where is the thread where the guy bought opened material from the 60s and 70s from his neighbor who put everything back into the packs and kept it stored that way?

    Great collection!
  • Beautiful collection! I would need a big table, about 500 card savers, and my wife and kids to leave for a solid week and have the biggest rip ever.
