1979 OPC box

Picked up a '79 OPC bb box at the strongsville ohio show this weekend for 225. Great packs. Many would grade 10 but I'm really thinking about cracking it. What's the best move?

Leave it sealed!!! Centering is brutal on 79 OPC.
  • I will throw in this tidbit. One of the packs was opened thus the low price. The pack that was opened had really nice centering across the board and that's why I bought it

Is the gum solidly stuck to the card in the packs?

I think you should sell it to me for a quick profit.

    Group rip!!

Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
  • I would open another pack as a "test". Usually the centering is similar throughout the box.

    I think that's a good idea. I'll be back...

    ...and yes, stuck solid lol

  • Ok. Centering is pretty solid yet again with just a couple slightly off. A nice catfish and griffey in that one. Corners and surfaces are sharp and clean on all. Looks like I have no choice, I'm gonna have to crack the rest now!

Good luck! A well centered psa 9 Ozzie will more than pay for the box!

The reason I asked you about the gum is because, I believe, PSA will NOT slab a pack anymore, unless the gum is solidly stuck to the card.

Looks like you are RIPPING! Best of luck. Show us the good ones!

  • I will. I've been drinking and watching basketball while cracking packs so bear with me lol

  • Wow, pulled an Ozzie in the 3rd pack in! It's a little o/c of course but a solid 7. Nice clean surface and good corners. Maybe one more pack before the good games come on. Can't complain so far. I'll get pics up eventually. Sorry for the teasers!

  • Last pack for the night yielded a perfect Fidrych. I'll continue this through the weekend. Pics to come. Back to brackets!

Man you stole it at the price you paid. I haven't seen one sell for less than $450 in a year.
