Memory Lane stole my 1970s unopened!

Hey guys, sorry I have been offline. It has been a busy couple months as I have been sorting through my collection. I decided to sell-off about 1/2 my cards to prepare for the zombie apocalypse image. However, I decided to keep most of my 1980s unopened because those are for breaking - but I reached out to Memory Lane to sell some of my cherished 1970s unopened stuff. So this is part a shameless plug and pre-notice because I know a lot of you will be almost as interested as I in tracking what many of these will sell for:

1977 Topps unopened vending case (bought from Steve around 2007)
4x 1978 Topps cello (straight from Topps vault and purchased from Steve around 2008)
5x 1975 Topps mini waxbox (1/2 of what I own)
1979 Topps 6box sealed rack case! (bought around 2007)
there are some others I forgot about but these should be interesting, no?
I'm least clear about what the 1977 vending case will sell for.

    Hi henry
    Good luck!
Maybe $12-15k on the 77 vending?

    Good luck, Henry!

I bet the 77 vending case goes for 20K with juice.

Just out of curiosity Henry, why did you go with Memory Lane instead of, let's say, PWCC or Probstein?

Thank you for the kind words. They are very much appreciated.
As for why Memory Lane? Bobby, that is a good question. I have been selling ALOT of my collection. I will post my thoughts of the difference (in my opinion) between Probstein, PWCC and auction houses. I have a very precise strategy of what I will send where.

Personally, I've found no reason to ever go with an AH, when they essentially take 18-19% and PWCC or Rick is taking around 8-13% depending on the card. The exception would be an ultra rare Pre-War card. The bet one makes with an AH is that they have a clientele of deep-pocketed bidders that an ebay operation does not. Yet as someone routinely on the buying side, I don't see AH's shattering or eclipsing the prices which the ebay brand names fetch. The hammers are usually in line at both places, but one is simply taking more of that hammer.

An AH is a smart move for high $ unopened material. Just look at the most recent Collect Auction that passed. Unopened vending boxes and cases were selling for 30-70% more than their eBay counterparts.

    Good luck image

    +1

The Spring REA auction also set recordbreaking prices, too. For items like these, an AH is the way to go if you're selling, imo.

I follow every major auction house and believe that Memory Lane has achieved the highest average prices for unopened material, bar none. I recently gave Memory Lane some items to sell (not unopened) and we discussed unopened at length. They have a very strong mailing list in this area. Therefore I think it's a great choice. Best of luck with the sales Henry. I will be bidding on the 1978 and 1979.

Does anyone know what time this auction usually ends in morning?

Like most auction house auctions these days, their auctions usually end between 4 and 4:30 am; I think their december one ended around that time frame.

Just double-checked my records: their december auction ended at 3:46 am.

    Thanks. That was EST right?

Yes, EST--good point, because if it was 3:46 PST that would be even worse!!!!!

Henry, congratulations on the successful auction prices. Memory Lane came through in a way that I don't think eBay could touch.

Memory Lane prices blew me away on some stuff. They sold a card that I sold for $2,000 6 years ago for $7,000!!!

    Thanks brother,
I am completely blown away by some of the prices (perhaps the 1976 vending were the most surprising). I guess the big winner of the night was actually S&W and Mountain House image
Interestingly, my 1963 and 1967 sets sold for a substantial loss - but the unopened more than made up for it.
