In your opinion when is the best time to sell?

Hey all,

I haven't posted in a really long time but, I am moving into a smaller house and through the process I can't believe how much memorabilia I have acquired over the years. I have a lot of baseball, football and hockey memorabilia and it's not all going to fit in the new house. My question is when is the best time to sell? Do you think I could try to maximize my profits selling when the sport is in season or do you think it doesn't matter? I will probably be moving in the next couple of months and would like to unload as much as possible however, I don't want to take a huge loss.

Thanks in advance for the advice.

    1) Sell during the season
    2) Use Probstein

  • Does Probstein take memorabilia?

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

In season may add up to 10% and playoff could be as high as 15% I would say.

I was always told, the best time to sell, is when you don't have to.

    What he said ^
    Good for you.
  • Since you have what sounds like a considerable amount of stuff. I'd sell each during each of it's particular season. Baseball now, etc. shouldn't be that difficult since you'll need the time anyhow.

I haven't seen probstein sell memorabilia like entire game used jerseys (not on a card), bats etc.

If you have game worn/used/signed memorabilia in the $500+ per item range, I would suggest a no auction house like Goldin, SCP, REA, Legendary, HA or Grey Flannel (for basketball). There are not a lot of serious collectors on eBay for these items, and they generally won't be trusted unless previously authenticated by a major auction house. In the memorabilia realm, I haven't seen a noticeable difference in price depending on time of year or what sport is in season.
Always buying 1971 OPC Baseball packs.

Best time to sell is when you don't want to sell and someone else really wants to buy what you have
