Review Poppage. 3 for 6 with a Grand Slam.

Was pleased to say the least with this review submission. 65 Koufax from 8 to 8.5, 68 Bench RC from 8.5 to 9, and a grand slam with my 72 Rose from 9 to 10. I had always thought the Rose was among the finest if not the finest card in my personal collection, and this is validation of it. It'll now be sold to fund other purchases & someone will be very happy to own it.

Do you think they loosened the reins on the reviews?

Nice cards and congrats on the bumps.
Did you originally submit those cards raw or did you purchase for review?

    Wow!

If anything, review subs are more closely scrutinized than raw submissions. Congrats!

Awesome bump! Any guesses on a value for the Rose 10? The only sale in VCP's database is one that went for $5,937 through Memory Lane in 2008. The pop is 5 (or 6 if this one didn't make it in there yet). Not knowing what the pop was in 2008, I could;t hazard a guess. But the fact that one hasn't sold publicly in 6 years is a definite plus for the seller.

The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

I don't think the reins have been loosened.....this was the second time in for the Rose & the third time for the Bench & Mantle. First time for the 65 Koufax.

I bought the Mantle & Bench raw. Hard to say what the value of the Rose might be......wouldn't think it would go higher than the 2008 sale but who knows. My guess is less than that but still strong.

    Those are really nice! Congrats!

So I gotta know did you buy those raw, already graded, dare I say a pack?
  • Thats amazing regardless. I wish I had the funds available to purchase that Rose. Maybe its time I send in a few that I have always felt deserved a bump.

this was the second time in for the Rose & the third time for the Bench & Mantle.

Does show the value of persistence. However you would think reviews would be more consistent.
They have the technology to know if they reviewed a card previously so why would the grade change on a re-review?
What could have changed from review 1 to review 2 to review 3? Other than the reviewer I guess.

Spot on. We expect machine like precision out of human beings and are surprised when it doesn't happen. It shows the value of persistence and being an advocate for your cards. How many discussions have there been here about the razor fine line between a solid 9 and a 10?

The reverse would hold true as well I would bet: Crack out 100 10s and see if more than 50 of them regrade as 10, or drop to a 9 or less. Be a fun, but brutally expensive experiment.

Wowsers! That is spectacular. Beautiful cards. If you'd like to free up some more cash for purchases, you mentioned having a particular early 1970s wax box that I'd love! Hah.

Looks like a few print marks in the upper right quarter of the rose card?
    If so, you got lucky

I just got back from PSA and have done a ton of reviews with mixed results, so for you to get those grades is just amazing.

no offense but if this happened to 4sharp this board would be screaming holy hell.

so the bench was raw , graded an 8.5 originally? or was it an 8? bumped to an 8.5? and now bumped to a 9?

I still stand by grading but I believe the reins have been loosened. maybe they were too tight before , I don't know but 10's seem to fly around a lot easier than they did even 3 years ago, never mind 5 or 10 years ago. sure some are warranted but the 10 used to be a special grade , now it is becoming just another tier. This is probably how it was originally meant to be and not just a grade that was thrown out once in a while to give someone a woody

I would be in an uproar if this happened to 4 sharp....I mean 4sharp would deserve all tens right off the bat.....no review subs needed ever. 10's the first time....always.image

The last time I asked about PSAs open Fridays, I was told they stopped doing that. Maybe it's different now.
