Nice Barter

Been trying to find folks to barter with using silver or even gold. Here's a sort of deal.
I traded one ASE for a box of bullets. The box had 22 boxes of 5.56 within.
Now that's not really much of a trade for him, but they were old stock and he was literally giving
them away to me. But I liked that he really appreciates and understands silver and what an ASE is.
Tried to give him more, but he didn't want it. Still a positive on the sheets in my barter and silver trading experimentation.
(which may make up for some other not so good deals)
My transition of selling older generic silver to ASEs or equivalent is coming along fine. If anyone sees
one of those fantastic Apmex Ebay gold special deals let me know.

I'd like to hear more about your transition from generic to ASEs. I've been doing the same, but I find that people's definition of "generic" varies. For instance, I've come across stackers who have never heard of Engelhard. (One of them even referred to it as "Engelbert") So... do I sell off my Engelhard and convert to all ASEs and/or Maple Leafs for better resale/bartering market in the future??
just what is an ASE
if you traded 1oz silver coin for 22 boxes of 5.56 ammo??
you did great

ASE = American Silver Eagle Sometimes abbreviated SAE - Silver American Eagle
Same with the gold eagles - just replace "S" with "G"

ASE is American Silver Eagle. It is a one ounce silver bullion coin with a face value of $1. One can buy them raw or slabbed, proof or business strike with occasional variations or errors. Sometimes it refers to Spotted Eagle since due to a manufacturing shortcoming, some of them tend to develop white milky looking spots that are unsightly, detract from the eye appeal and are difficult or impossible to remove cleanly once formed. They also appear in a tea/coffee colored version.
ps. I did give the bullet deal guy a quarter of a Stagecoach and he really appreciated it. I mean who doesn't want a split quarter of a Stagecoach.
Now, Regarding selling off generic Silvers:
I've just about sold off 20 generics which 'paid for' my recent good deal of a tube of ASEs from ebay/apmex w free shipping.
(respectfully noting good alternative advice from a senior member here)
Its been a good learning adventure for me on how hard it is to sell some silver privately and I'll continue so as to fund the next extremely good deal on ASEs or AGEs. Plus building up a little friend base locally. I even refunded a $1 to some of my friends that bought a little high to keep good will going. I'm still selling the generics and if there is anything unique or could sell for a tad more I set the price accordingly. Normally spot + $1'ish, where I keep the extra change. Buck or two more for the unique or cool looking ones. Someone just bought a bunch of proof coins so I gave him spot +$1 on the silver.
But anything with a big name like Engelberts, Maple Leafs, JMs, and nice halfs, I'm generally keeping for now. And if I do sell, it will be the same or more premium apmex uses.
<< <i>Not bad - careful with the old stock though - listen for squibs!
