Goodbye Tulving

Word on the street is that they are finally shutting down.

(Unconfirmed rumor at this point.)

Site is still up, but evidently there is a sign in their window stating that they are closed.

The writing has been on the wall for a long time.

There was previously an article posted on Coinflation about them shuttering their doors. I am amazed they were still accumulating customers to send them money after all the complaints started last year.

The writing has been on the wall for a long time

    Since the mid-1980's.

One former veteran was mentioned in a recent article where he paid $1200 each for twenty 1 oz gold maples in December. They never came. Frankly, I don't think there was any time in the past year where you could have purchased 1 oz. Maples for such a low price when gold only bottomed at $1182 in December. A bullion dealer working on 0-1% commission OR trying to bring in fresh cash any way possible to pay off current expenses and fill older orders? Sometimes a price is too cheap.

He said 'over 24k'. $50 over on $1180 could have been had any number of places then during the xmas sales. Hell I was about to pull the trigger on a kangaroo for +$29 I think it was at the time at prov/apmex. Totally feasible.

But, no way I would have ever ordered from Tulving after hearing all the horror stories and complaints everywhere for the past decade+.

I remember last year when the young folk were saying what a great guy to buy from. Leopards rarely change their spots, luckily some of us have long memories.

    Hope everyone gets made whole.

Actually, it's not unconfirmed rumor. See http://about.ag/Tulving.htm . They closed on Monday morning, March 3.

Oddly, though, The Tulving Company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy a couple hours ago (Chapter 11 lets them continue in business). Currently there is a temporary restraining order that would prevent them from doing so, however, so presumably they would have to wait for that to end.

I could see Chapter 11 for most companies in the financial world. But one that handles so much bullion on a daily basis is another story. There have to be some strict controls in place and I'm not sure who would actually be able to monitor things. My last company filed Chapter 11 in 2002 and it took a couple of years to come out from under that. It wasn't until financier Sam Zell came in and agreed to buy the company for $225 MILL that things improved. Up to that point I think the "offers" were from raiders to break up the company and sell the pieces. There probably aren't financial people lining up to back Tulving for another shot after his 1986-1992 performance.

A timeline - What Went Wrong

I enjoyed many years of business with Tulving, always getting my goods in a timely manner. Appears my choice to start purchasing my bullion from dbscoins (based strictly on price savings) in early 2011 was a stroke of luck.

    Same M.O. as Tulving

I believe they used to sell on eBay and had several good looking babes handling their "inventory and mailings."

Big Ken, from Blue Moon on ebay, is back on ebay under a new user ID. When I am able to recall or locate the new ID I will post it. And yes, a babe in the pictures.

    The Barry Chappell of eBay

LOL...he's one of the reasons I got rid of DirecTV. Comcast doesn't broadcast his show, at least not in my area. Some, and I mean just some, of his rants were pretty good, but for the most part I would watch just for a good laugh.

As far as Tulving being able to "re-open" for business after the restarining order and Chapter 11 is incurious to me. Their/his reputation is shot, who in their right mind would order from him again. As always, jmho.
