Awesome cards Nikklos. I am a huge fan of the 1980 set and from the scans, there's a lot of nice looking cards in there. The Manny Mota is a 300 dollar card if that 10's, the Charlie Hough, John Wathan, Don Robinson and Terry Forster cards are all usually tough as well as the Jim Kaat. Did you pull any Rickey's? Hoping you see lots of 10's from these if you decide to sub. Good luck either way.

Chris, thanks for sharing. I can't wait to see the rest of the box. Rickey has to be there somewhere.

Rickey makes an appearance! A very nice appearance.

There is nothing like waking up at 7am on a Saturday and pulling a Rickey out of a 1980 vending box! Highly recommended.

    Plenty of box to go!

It is nice to see the 1970 wax rip left such an impression on some folks all these years later! Think I did ok on that box but can't recall now exactly what I pulled from where.

Where I really got killed is I bought that box for $7500. Can you imagine what it would go for now??

It was worth every penny though! What a rush!

How about a nice close up scan of the Rickey? From the scan you showed certainly has a great shot at a 9.

    Whoa, Flannery RC! Motherload!

You are making it harder and harder for me to keep by my initial decision to keep the box sealed.

...and if you wanna hear about someone taking a bath on cards -- did you hear the one about the 23k Sierra RCs? image

  • Congrats on the Rickey..at least a 9. Give him one more Rickey...use your "one time" the way these are looking.

Thank you so much for sharing. Brings back memories.

Look Maurice hasn't joined the troll...and poof the troll has gone away. Only likes to bully in groups.

....is there a link or how do I find the thread to nikklos 1970 wax rip? Would love to see that rip. Thanks

Thanks for sharing! Congrats on the Rickey!! No better feeling than pulling a big star out of unopened!

This is a great case, and if the Rickey grades a 9 (as it should), you will be in the black with all other cards as gravy! I wonder if the 79s are as equally nice? I know Gemmint won't open his so I may have to crack mine some day, LOL!

That Rickey is ridiculous! I'd be very surprised if you're doing anything other than freerolling at this juncture, Nikklos. I never thought I'd say this to another male, but I have deep admiration for your onions!

Oh and Yoda, why don't you go make yourself useful and play in rush hour traffic? It's getting extremely tiresome opening up an epic Nik ripping thread, only to find an asswipe like you who's trying to kill the vibe.

you'll never be able to outrun a bad diet

Sweet Rickey!!! Also particularly fond of the Mota RB. He was one of my favorites growing up and one of my first player collections. He had 60s and 70s cards a 10 year old could afford.

Totally appreciate your rips. This one is very encouraging since I broke monthly budget to get one too. I'd be thrilled with similar results.

    Congrats!

+1. There were plenty of other great looking, well centered cards of HOFers and All Stars. What a rip!

    CrissCriss,
I am still waiting for the pics of your "1980 Topps case". I am sure you have it......don't you? Why don't you just post a pic of that on this thread? I am sure out of the 400 posts you have made - surely one can be positive and true.
Looking for high grade rookie cards and unopened boxes/cases

Thanks for all the kind words and well wishes guys. So there wasn't another Rickey in the box. There were so many doubles I thought there might be a chance. Great box though and great Rickey! Will keep you all posted on the grades.

    Rounding out the box...

And another, nicer, Qzzie. The top right corner looks smushed in the scan but I don't see it in hand.

Well that's all she wrote folks. Glad you all enjoyed it!

Also to my brothers who bought one of these vending boxes, I urge you to rip em. I wish I bought more. You know the boxes in this case are probably at least not cut wrong. Why let someone else get it? Invest in another box!

That was a nice box!!! Great centering!! Thanks for sharing your rip. I ripped several 80 Vending boxes a few years ago with limited success. I was attempting to put together a Mint raw set.

I'm still a handful of cards short of the set. Are you interested in selling any of them? If so, let me know and I can PM you my list.

No kidding Shane…wasn't this the guy who offered you an 81T FB rack case for some ridiculous amount and then supposedly sold it to someone else for that amount? The guy sure goes through a lot of trouble to create a fake persona.

I've only "ripped" one of these 1980 Topps vending boxes and it yielded two Rickey's... they graded 8 and 9. Good luck with your subs!
  • This was a much friendlier box than the 1980 vending I opened....
  • Crisscrisss...was he the one who asked Maurice out of the blue to tell us about himself, his fav color, his interests, how he's doing? Speaking of alternate persona wasn't there speculation he is Maurice?

The Wizard of Oz looks mighty slick as well. Generally speaking, how were the corners from this box?

As far as corners, it was mostly pristine but there were a few touched and some smashed sprinkled throughout.

If I'm buying one of your Hendersons, it's the one on the right. And I could not care less what the flip ultimately says. L/R is always an immediate deterrent to my eyes, and you just upgraded where that's concerned.
