He pulled a sharp cornered, centered, no PD Rickey -- then he passed out, bonked his head and can't update right now. Luckily, he got the card in a CS before he went down.

Did you get to meet Ace Ventura when he dropped that package off?

    Looking forward to it!

    Good luck!

Good luck... here's hoping for a Rickey that is much better centered than the one I pulled from my last 80 vending.

Good luck! Here's hoping it's filled with 500 Henderson RCs...factory packing error!!!

I wonder what the most number of copies of same card, someone has pulled from an unsearched topps 500 count vending box from a 660 or 726 card set (ie a 70s or early 80s topps set)

More than 3-4 would seem unlikely
  • What is proper box rip etiquette after advertising a box rip here ?

Is it a mandate that one posts pics after every 10 cards, 50 cards, 100 cards, the best cards so far ? Or does one go through the whole box and post results after such a time that allows total purpose, dedication and focus by the box ripper in order to allow them their own fun ? Are there any laws surrounding this epic topic ?

It really depends on the year. A 1970 cello, I try to post card-by-card. But even then, those jumbo cellos get tedious to post card-by-card so I do skip some. A 1972 wax pack definitely gets the card-by-card treatment.

A 1980 vending box - I'd usually post highlights after the first hundred or so. But then again, I can see doing the whole box and then posting highlights. Depends on what it's looking like! The less misery the better!

Chris, how do corner edges look on the brick? That is the do or die for vending..

    Corners Look good Tim.

Sometimes you get a vending box and it's uniformly O/C. This ones all over the place. Which is good. image[/URL]

It certainly does, but we are only seeing the highlights.

Chris, what would you guess the percentage of well centered cards has been so far?

More of these 1980 vending boxes may end up getting opened given your results, plus receiving Mike's official ripped seal of approval. image

P.S. Tim you aren't going to let Chris show you up this weekend are you? Time to dip into the vault for one of your late night rips! image
  • gemintgemint Posts: 6,121 ✭✭✭✭✭
That Carew looks like the bottom two corners are slammed. Nice results otherwise though!

Ratio of O/C cards (left) to well - centered cards (right) and what's left in box!

    +1

I don't know why some people feel compelled to harsh on what people collect or how they spend their money in the hobby.

This is a community of collectors and I would venture to guess that for many people, the ability to see/share collections with fellow hobbyists is their favorite part of these boards. Snarky comments like this only discourage people from doing so.

perhaps CrossCriss could share the results of one of his collecting failures so he can really feel like part of the gang.
