Interesting turn of events, and discussion.

The real question is, of course:

DID YOU ORDER THE CODE RED?!

Not attempting to start anything but I find it curious no comments have been made regarding the above post by ebaytrader to MGLICKER. Guess it really is ok to do so with Christians? Although, I doubt anything derogatory was intended. We've become a thin-skined people.

we as a society have embraced the notion that name calling is a form of terrorism. as a child i was taught that words cannot hurt you, but sticks and stones may break bones. and that what you thought of yourself was more important than what the other 3rd graders said about you, we as a society have regressed to the point that young people are committing suicide because of what their classmates post on facebook. ...i don't care what you say behind my back as long as you have the decency to lie to my face.
regardless of how many posts I have, I don't consider myself an "expert" at anything

Sometimes the words lead to the sticks and stones. Nazi Germany was a horrendous example.

My feelings were similar to yours until I traveled to New York with an older business acquaintance. Found out that he lost half of his foot to frostbite at a concentration camp. History became reality at that moment in 1978.

    Ya'll can call me a dumb ol'southern cracker . . . whatever . . . won't bother me at all.
What does piss me off though is when folks down here in GA call me a Yankee just because I'm from NC ! ! ! imageimageimage

    Brilliant observation!

I used to bet that the upcoming Sunday NY Times would have some mention of either Hitler or the Nazis.

The bet would be made several days before the paper came out, and had to be done before the late Friday release of the Book Review and Arts and
Entertainment as these sections were often where the Hitler or Nazi references would appear. (Only Jesus has been the subject of more books than AH, and nobody
can write about Wagner's works without some mention of the Nazis. Then, there are all the movies: Schindler's List, Indiana Jones, Inglorious Basterds, The Monuments Men, etc.)

    I never lost the bet.

In other words, Godwin said that, given enough time, in any online discussion—regardless of topic or scope—someone inevitably makes a comparison to Hitler or the Nazis.

Wow, that is about as profound as it is useful (or even true, for that matter).

EDIT: I think the chances go up roughly 5000% when the topic centers on Judaism. Just a hunch, here.

72 replies on a thread you requested no replies on. Imagine what you could do if you requested replies! The power of suggestion.

I've never understood 100% of any veiled CJ thread. But, I consider 75% or better understanding to be acceptable. Even the TPG's don't grade any more accurate than 75% on average. image

You might want to go back and count. Hitler was mentioned back on the first page in the 13th response.

    Rick,

You have no reason to appologize for being anti-semitic to anyone. You have lived the walk and talked the talk in a very admirable manner for someone who is Jewish and for the Jewish people. And if in that process you have denigraded yourself by referring to yourself as a Kike, and have described negotiating is a Jewish term, that is your right. And as a Jew you have every right to use your own personal perspective, which certainly not anti-semitic. Certainly. I did paraphrase one of your comments in our discussion of the original post. Not all words are positive in their intent but that does not mean that they are evil.

If anything I will understand your "appology" as a personal explanation from you, and not an appology of Colonel Jessup. I don't think that Jessup would care much about the sensitivities of those that categorized your remarks as anti-semitic. Jessup would stand for your right to explain your position with reference to your upbringing. In context, the subject matter was still the cost of selling coins at auction, and at question was the propriety of the auction house vig on consignments. A question worthy of question on this forum.

Colonel Jessup speaks for many of us on this forum with a trusted and insightful voice. Your insight is valued by most all members of this forum, and your detractors simply have no answer except to claim anti-semitism. May the plague be on their house.

Clarence: You must be out your godxxxx mind! Joe Louis, the greatest boxer that ever lived. [to Akeem and Semmi] I'll be with you boys in a minute. He was badder than Cassius Clay, he was badder than Sugar Ray, and that new boy-what's his name? Mike Tyson?-looks like a bulldog; he was badder than him, too.

Saul: Vait a minute. Vat about Rocky Marciano?

Clarence: Oh, there they go. There they go, every time I start talkin' 'bout boxing, a white man got to pull Rocky Marciano out they azz. That's their one, that's their one. Rocky Marciano! Rocky Marciano! Let me tell you something, once and for all-Rocky Marciano was good; but compared to Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano ain't shxx.

Saul: He beat Joe Louis' azz.

Morris: That's right, he did whoop Joe Louis' azz.

Clarence: Joe Louis was 75 years old when they fought.

Morris: I don't know how old he was, but he got his azz whooped.

Clarence: Joe Louis had come out of retirement to fight Rocky Marciano the minute he was 76 years old. Joe Louis was always lying about his age. He lied about his age all the time. One time Frank Sinatra came in here and sat in this chair. I said Frank 'you hang out with Joe Louis, just between me and you, how old is Joe Louis?' You know what Frank told me, he said "Hey, Joe Louis is 137 years old." A hundred and thirty-seven years old!

Sweets: Oh. Man, you lying, you ain't never meet no Frank Sinatra.

Clarence: [points to Morris, Saul and Sweets] Fuzz you, fuzz you, and fuzz you! Who's next?!

    Nice.

CJ, you are a great guy. Words are words. Just that. As a person, we interpret those words based on our conditioning. I offend people who don't know me by using the most versitle word at any given moment and I JDGAF.

    I think that:

    a) Entirely too many people look for things to be offended about (in fact, some have made a career of it), and

    b) entirely too many people apologize about things for which no apology is needed.
