But without mint marks, so how could you tell it was made there?

<< <i>I'll bet Dan Carr is very glad he didn't "create" any before an actual one was legitimized >>
That would be pretty hard as there aren't too many aluminum cents to overstrike >>
Doesn't matter. The Mint says it did not issue any, so obviously the coin in the slab is just a figment of our imaginations.
Just like the 1964-D Peace dollar. The Mint didn't issue any of those, either!

Well, a coin ending up with the son of a former Mint Deputy Superintendent may not count as "issued." Coins leaving mint facilities and being issued can be different things.
As for the 1964-D Peace dollar, none are known to exist, issued or not, unless you know something we don't?

Since HE Lawrence left his son a bunch of coins in a plastic baggie, how cool would it have been if one of the coins "was" a 1964-D? The date certainly falls into the range of when he worked there. 1960-1980
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

Has it been confirmed that there wasn't one? If there is an unannounced one, this could be like the speculation on whether the Langbords have more 1933 DEs or not.
