1983 Topps Baseball cello box rip (continued) - Sane version :)

Constantine, if you do have a box from this case just know there is some pretty dang good stuff coming out image - Definitely not messed with or one of those boxes where 70 percent is O/C.

Pack 5:

Examples of what I'm considering non top loader worthy also. OC and VERY OC (the barbeque kind). 2nd look always good to do after to remove those cards from the top loaders my mind subliminally tried to make look more centered than they really are on first look image

Final 1983 Topps Cello box results based on centering:

Left - Top loaded very well centered cards - To sit until such time is available some far off year to look for low high grade pops
Middle - Slightly off center cards which I don't know what to now do with - what does anyone do with cards like these ? Just keep them in a box ? Give them away ?
Right - Off Centered stack - will burn in grill image

Middle cards are still good for most set builders. You can throw them on eBay as a lot straight from a cello box with 60/40 to 70/30 centering or whatever they are and see if something hits. The Gene Richards card is sweet. He really choked up that far every at bat.
Always buying 1971 OPC Baseball packs.

How much do those low pop cards go for on average? Late 70's cards with low pops can do pretty well as we've seen, is the demand on early 80's card sets on the rise?

Haven't really payed attention so I would expect they don't bring a ton of interest, though I wouldn't be surprised if they did.
  • Esquire - thanks - may actually try that image if anyone here is building the set, that stack is all yours for shipping and 10 bucks - corners are fine

MrPeanut - wonderful, thank you - I started looing at the registry and couldn't figure out the best way to find out the low pops - I gather extract to excel and sort ? Will go through these to see image

Radd - that is my dilemma - If common 10's (not on Mrpeanuts short bus list) go for 5 or 6 bucks each - am screwed any way if sending in 100 cardsfor grading, in example. At the lower 6 bucks a card for grading, that would be 600 plus I think the box cost a hundred and something - already in 700 or 800 bucks - and would probably only sell 50 PSA 10 cards at 7 bucks each, again, in example. 9's and 8's would only bring a couple bucks if could even sell them.

So, the moral of the story is either get demand Star Power and low common 10's out of a box - or leave the dang box sealed !!!! haha (as eluded to by a PMer)

Still, way fun to OPEN verse sittin there in a sealed BBCE shipping box in the closet image

I would say any common with a pop 15 or over is probably not worth grading. Maybe anything with a pop of 10 or more. Even the stars in PSA 9 aren't really worth it. A quick check of VCP and Schmidt, Yount, Ryan and Yaz are all less than $10 in PSA 9. I'm sure there are exceptions. I am by no means an expert on pricing. I'm trying to build my set through my own submissions, so I check VCP when the grades pop and then I do a year end wrap up. I just don't think more than a handful of collectors are chasing 10s for this set.
