Disappointing story buying card collection

So I have been buying cards from this person in PA and here is the story in emails, his cards are mint and well cheap

As I told you before, I know for sure that I have a complete set 1978, 197, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, and 1987 Topps. I believe I have some older baseball cards starting in 1969. I believe I have 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, and 1973. All of my cards were in my parents house since I moved out in 1987. My mother moved them from my bedroom to a bookcase to a coat closet. They have always been in a constant temperature in plastic sheets and no smoking environment. My mother was recently cleaning out her house and asked me to take them as they were in her way. I do not have room for them either, consequently selling them. I started with the 1974 set and have since held the 75,76,77 set for you. My mother's birthday is Dec. 12th, but it looks like I won't be able to get there next week. I know for sure that I am headed there for X-mas. I will look for the older partial sets, particularly the 1972 cards that you like. I am sure I have individual cards from the 70's as well, as I had extras. Also have a few Roberto Clemente, Willie Stargell, and Mike Schmidt cards. I think that is all. Your father-in-law did call me just awhile ago and asked for my address and saidhe is coming next week sometime, depending on the weather. Hope that helps. Thanks.

next email is after pops picked my cards up for me

Your father in-law picked up the 75,76,77 sets several hours ago. I showed him all the sets and key cards. I thank you and look forward to hearing from you when you receive them in person. I am holding the 78,79,80 sets and will stay in touch about the partial sets. Thanks again.

then he cant find the partial sets !!

I am hoping to have the partial sets soon. I was at my parents yesterday and could not find them, which has me perplexed to say the least. I have always kept them in my old bedroom closet. My mother is looking for them in the rest of the house, while I check my grandmothers house this saturday as that is the only other place they could be. I will let you know as soon as they turn up. Are you in the Washington D.C. area for the holidays? Hope you had a good Christmas.

I have finally located the partial sets. Long story in which my older brother thinks that they are his, which they are not. My father is getting involved and I hope to have them back soon. As soon as I have them I will let you know exactly what they are. Just wanted to keep you up to date. I assume you are in no hurry for any of these? Thanks.

My father has supposedly gotten back 3 partial sets, though I still think there are more. In any event, per a phone conversation, he tells me that he has a partial 1969 set (around 300 cards) partial 1971 set (around 300 cards) and partial 1972 set (over 500 cards). I have no idea when I will get them in person, or how to go about trying to price them. I remmeber them being released in series, I have no idea what stars or semi stars I have. Just updating you. I am still holding the 1978, 1979, and 1980 sets as well. Also looking for Clemente's when I have a chance. Thanks.

now the horrible news !!

Not good news. I finally traveled north to my parents to retrieve the partial sets. I come to find out that all 3 sets are severly damaged. All cards are bent in half inside the plastic sheets, 100% sure that my brother deliberately did that before relinguishing them. I still can't believe my eyes. I am upset for you, more upset for me.
