<< <i>First time i've bought a box of regular topps in over 25 years! Usually i am strictly heritage but with my son liking cards (he's 6) i decided to go for a box at $95 from local shop.

    >>

    $95 a box of Hobby ??

    Ouch.....
  • Gotta be the jumbo. I just bought a box of jumbo for $95.

OK... someone said Jumbo was the way to go.

I counted 14 different inserts in that box. Anyone going to scan ? I'm trying to hold out to March 5th.

You should get a complete series with a jumbo, minus a few cards. All those inserts make great trade material.

That's what I am hoping for on both counts - get a complete set or close to one, and use the inserts for trade bait and/or subsidize the cost of the box.

I put a set together every year. I do agree for me the inserts are a bit over the top but it comes down to topps will put out a product they think will sell. I busted a box and hit a Bryce Harper relic/auto redemption. If someone wants to trade or sell inserts let me know maybe we can work something out.

I just busted a jumbo box and hit a vintage 1962 Willie Mays in EXMT NM with that stupid topps 75 stamp on it. Way to trash a card. image
  • Mick65Mick65 Posts: 722 ✭✭✭

What does that do to the value? Does Beckett have pricing on these? Usually they are commons so the stamp really doesn't matter.

Way to go George with the Harper and Mays - great pulls regardless of the stamp

Been a while for me but picked up 2 jumbos and a hobby box today at lunch - rip commencing soon

First jumbo box was kinda blah:

    Arod jersey
    Kris Medlin Auto
    Randy Johnson ring

On the other hand, box 2 vomited out all this sweet goodness:

    image

    Trout #10/25
    Puig #32/50
no clue what the Sabathia is # to but if the Trout is /25, the autos must be less

Hey Jon, yeah been a while

Just finished the hobby box - nothing great

    James Shields Jersey
Robbie Erlin clear #4/10 - those are pretty cool

from the 3 boxes I got 6 buy backs mixed condition

Oldest was 1960 - Bob Skinner - ex condition
    1966 Jim davenport - creased
1969 Duke Sims - scribbled on with no ink in the pen - either that or one of my pet ringworms got in between the cardboard and ran a marathon.
1975 Richie Zisk and Vada Pinson
    1977 Mike Ivie

Some cool hits this year, I was at my local card store today. I picked up some jumbo packs and didn't hit much but when I was there another guy picked up some packs for 2 bucks each. He hit a sweet Gary Carter auto/relic numbered to 25.

After seeing this thread, I ordered a couple of jumbo boxes for the first time in years with designs on building a base set for each of my 2 sons (I buy a factory set each year). My boys got into it and we're going to sort and build today but I agree I with a lot of the posts that the inserts can really offset the cost of these boxes. We ended up pulling the below Andrew McCutchen Commemorative Rookie Cup pin 1/25 and the Billy Hamilton Magenta Press Plate 1/1 that I put on the bay to offset the cost. Autos were meh with Matt Adams and Wade Miley and relic cards were Mark Teixeira and David Price. Also hit a lot of the SPs (Kershaw, Rivera, etc.) and trying to decide what to do with those. Fun rip overall!

Shouldn't the press plate be in reverse?? If the are using the plate to make a card how can it be in the direction as a normal card??
