Can anyone help me understand the White Letter variations in 1994 UD Collector's Choice?

So I have a pretty firm grasp on what the white letter variation is on the 1994 Upper Deck Collector's Choice Alex Rodriguez card. To recap:

On the back of the card, where the giant 'A' is to start the write-up, it is commonly found in silver, like below and rarely found in just white.

However, I notice that PSA has graded Derek Jeter "white letter" variations. However, to the best of my little searching, ALL of Jeter's 94 UD CC cards have a white 'D' on the back to start his name in the write-up. Am I missing something? Has anyone ever seen a silver 'D' on the back of a Jeter card? Or did PSA just assume that the variation existed with the Jeter card as well?

Here's a close up of the back of my Jeter for comparison's sake:

If anyone knows for certain what the story is with the Jeter, please post. This has been knawing at me for a while now.

Thanks Swartz. Not sure that answers it though, unless the variation is different on the Jeter compared to the ARod. I have a non-silver sig ARod that has a silver A on the back.

Perhaps they're two entirely different variations that both contain "white letters" and, hence, the confusion?
  • There are two different white letter variations - the first is regarding the lettering on the back. My understanding is that pack-pulled Alex Rodriguez cards will have a grey "A", while cards from the factory sets will have a white "A". This variation should exist for the first letter of text on the back of all cards in the Future Foundation subset. The white version is believed to be a bit more difficult to find than the grey, but the premium is modest.

The second (and more rare) white variation is where the lettering on the front of a silver signature variation is white, not grey. Again, I believe all silver signature Future Foundation subset cards can be found with the white letter variation. The white letter variation is very rare - I believe it is far rarer than the gold signature parallel which was inserted one per box.

See below for the two variations:

Thanks, I think I understand now. In regard to the first variation, I think it might only be for the ARod as I pulled a white letter 'D' Jeter from a pack.

I do not collect these ( I am fixated enough on variants in other sets), but appreciate Arthur pointing it out and bsf explaining it. Always find this stuff interesting

Al, don't ever look at the 1990 Upper Deck set. Holy variations, Batman!
