I thought I would share a new-to-the-hobby Cassius Clay card

I've been researching and cataloging cards from Argentina for a while now. I found it very fascinating that they had such a rich history of trading cards as inserts or collectibles, dating back to the 19th century. Anyway, to the best of my knowledge, this card is a new-to-the-hobby discovery -- haven't seen of another or heard of anyone cataloging it in the set.
It comes from the 1966 Maravillas set, which is an absolutely gargantuan set with too many subjects and topics to list here. Anything you can possibly fathom is included in it -- flowers, dogs, local politicians, international politicians, local entertainment celebrities, international entertainment celebrities, scenes from Pinocchio, you name it. It's a real mish-mash of subjects with seemingly no stone left unturned.
To this point, I've cataloged 20 boxing cards (of course, there's also futbol cards and a Pele) that include IBHOFers Nicolino Locche and Masahaiko "Fighting" Harada (shoveling a bowl of noodles into his mouth, oddly enough). I suspect there's a also a Pascual Perez, although I've never seen one. Perez was a popular Argentine fighter and also a IBHOF inductee who appeared in just about every set from Argentina up to this point that included boxing cards on their checklist.
The set is printed on paper stock and contains hundreds and hundreds of cards. They're somewhat difficult, as I've only seen them come up for sale a couple of times and the majority of my cards came from one seller who listed a massive group of cards from the set at once.
Dating these sets is always difficult because albums are rare and sellers usually aren't concerned with accurately identifying the issue date as we are here in the States. Luckily, the backs of the cards provide current title-holder status and even mention if a fighter is an ex-title holder so narrowing down the issue date wasn't much harder than spending an hour on boxrec.com looking up when a fighter held said title, when they obtained it, and when they lost it.
Anyway, here's the Clay.

Here's the Nicolino Locche, Pele, and Fighting Harada cards in case anyone was curious.
There appear to be a good amount of hobby shops in Argentina and collecting is still pretty strong there, although it's mostly futbol cards these days. But back pre-1980 there were a good amount of boxing cards. I've cataloged boxing cards from as far back as 1925 from Argentina. But they would have the occasional US athlete from other sports as well. Here's a John McEnroe card from 1980. There's also a Victor Galindez card from this set, who I mentioned in another thread that died tragically in a race car accident in 1980, and is an IBHOF inductee.
Joan Mcenroe..appropriately named... He did cry like a little girl all the time
The dinner shots are pretty funny, as if the set were compiled by paparazzi taking unauthorized photos and printing them as cards.

They probably were unauthorized.
Great find Arthur!! I find researching different aspects of the hobby to be more enjoyable than actually collecting them. I've accumulated so many notes over the years I really need to condense them into one resource. A nice project for retirement.
