Not yet, Eric. I pulled two from last box but both were OC.

Like the last box, I have yet to pull ANY Future Stars card from the first part of the box. (I started at same end as last time.) But if the first box is any indication, I will see plenty of those in second half of the box. I didn't pull a Fernando last time, hough, so hopefully this time. I'm only about 1/3 of the way through this box, but have to pause now to order CS Is, LOL..

Sorry Tim, no card savers here. Don't need them if you don't rip anything. image

Tim, I'm loving these '81 rips. I'm definitely coming around with the appreciation for this set.

There are some sharp vending fresh examples in there!

    Good luck with the remainder!

Thanks, guys! Breaking down these last two boxes has been a blast. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to hold off on going through the second half of this box till I get more card savers in, but I will pick up where I left off when I do.

I feel the same way about this set~not one I really felt drawn to, but going through these boxes has changed my mind, and I'm going to sub a bunch of these to see where I stand on the set. I'm hoping for a decent special in February. I will also update these threads when the cards come back.

I love to see a solid vending rip. So underrated. Tim, not sure if you answered this already, but are both of your vending boxes from the same source?

Yes, they are. I bought 3 boxes and will probably keep the last one unopened, as I have a run of vending boxes from 1977 through 1981.

I also found about 1/3 a 100 ct bag of CF Is, so I will go through some more cards tonight. I ordered half a case from Columbia on ebay today, too, so I will be well preprared for future rips. image

I could be talked into opening one of the 4 1980 vending boxes I have sitting around. I'll need to wait for a quiet weekend though.

Thanks, George! And who amu I kidding, that 3rd box will get broken down at some point, LOL..

From previous group, those of you who followed the Mets in the '80s know what trade Neil Allen facilitated...and then a couple years later, who gave up the gamewinning HR in the 10th inning on Opening Day 1985 at Shea to other new arrival Gary Carter, a game I was at, and fondly recall.

Garvey is still a fan favorite today, joined here by his infield partner..

Mike, you are always on the cutting edge of humor there.. image

Like the first box I broke down on New Year's Eve/Day, this box yielded no Future Stars, Team cards, League Leaders or Checklists in first 2/3 of the box. Then when I get to last 1/3 of box, there are tons of all those cards. Unfortunately, all the Future Stars cards are OC, so even if I pull one, it is not likely to be submittable. Centering also gets more erractic in this part of the box, same as last time. Uncanny how similar the collation is.

Unlike last time, I did pull a Gibby RC and a Ryan. The Ryan is OC and the Gibby is decent but not as nicely centered as I wanted it to be, and there are some registration issues, too.

<< <i>Tim, the Glenn Adams card is the hardest one to get half decent, its the only card in the set that has no 9's or 10's. >>

Pulled a Glenn Adams card in last group of 25...not a blazer but not terrible, either. Wish it were centered a smidge lower, though in my experience, more leeway is given to higer centered cards as opposed to cards centered lower. Any shot at the first 9, Ron?

The last 1/3 of this box is not nearly as nice as the first 2/3, but I can't complain. I have a question, though--I have noticed that some of the cards in the last 1/3 of the box have those stray pieces of cardboard fuzz (for lack of a more clinical term, lol) hanging off the otherwise sharp corner of a card. Does anyone know how PSA will grade a card with something like that?

Tim, the Adams card looks real good, if it comes back a nine you will be the only one so far that has it. I have some 9's that came back with the fuss on one of ends.

Thanks, Ron, I will post all the grades once I get them back. I just have to whittle down what I'm going to send in. I truly believe the Brett #700 has a great shot at a 10.

good luck on the Glenn Adams. I'd send it in just for the heck of it and see if it could get passed the PD.

I have at least one PSA 10 with the stray piece of fuzz. I suspect that this is a gray area and could be up to the individual grader. The stray piece of fuzz is in some ways similar to a rough cut when you think about it.

At long last, my Card Savers are finally due to arrive via Fed Ex tomorrow, so I will be able to finally finish this '81 vending box!

To make up for lost time and to break in as many of the 1/2 case of CS Is that I bought from Columbia Sports Cards, I will also be opening a 1978 Topps baseball rack pack! image
