ebay rant - resolved to everyones satisfaction

Now I see why I've read so many rants about ebay. Had a buyer with (1) feedback, yeah I know I should have known better, but anyways I sold him $60 worth of merchandise, shipped in a flat rate priority mail box, of course which is insured only for $50 and I didn't pay for the additonal amount, and now the seller says never got it and is taking me thru the trials and tribultions of the ebay process for non receipt.....it's like having a root canal done. Everything is out there for the buyer but it's absolute he.. looking for anything to protect the seller. And to top it off paypal took the money out of my account, no questions asked. sorry I'm venting but what a pain.

PS: my ebay id is al_n_sandy14 with 100% positives....or at least I've had it up to now, who know what turns out after this.

If the tracking shows delivery then the burden is on him to prove non-delivery. I've been on both sides of the fence on this issue and it is not as easy as you think for a buyer to win a claim, especially if there is tracking.

Simply supply Ebay with the tracking number showing delivery and you will eventually win the case. If you didn't ship with a tracking number, 68.7% of the Ebay rants you read about had to do with sellers not shipping with tracking and losing their money.

the tracking shows delivery on the 8th, I told him to ask his mailman where he put the package. I sent him copy of the mailing receipt with the tracking number and told him to go to the local post office if his mailman can't help.

You should be covered if the tracking number supports your claim. At least I would HOPE so. Can you list the buyer's ID so we can add them to our BBL?

I'll provide the ebay id if this sours completely, hate to hang someone out to dry for first time. I also realized that the (1) positive feedback was from me, I almost always post positive after I receive payment and did for this one like I normally do....I'll keep everyone informed. by the way it's Marietta Georgia as the location, anyone in the area? maybe some covert investigating.......hey I feel almost like ccis, Card Criminal Investigative Service!!

  • A similar situation happened to me last month. USPS tracking showed the item as delivered, but the buyer opened a case stating non delivery. He had a lot of feedback, and seemed sincere...maybe the item was stolen from his mailbox. Paypal froze the funds for a day or two, then released the funds back into my account after deciding in my favor.

Did you have to notify paypal or was it taken care of automatically??? my funds are solid as ice and can't be touched.

It appears your handling of the shipment will be covered under Paypal's seller protection. As long as you provided the tracking and Paypal can see that your package was delivered you will eventually win(not lose) the case and get your money back. It takes Paypal several days to get around to that.

The release of funds will be taken automatically, once the case is settled.

I remove PayPal funds from my account whenever I get a decent balance. There is not a charge to move funds into your account. You could do it after every sale if you like.

  • If your tracking # confirms delivery to the correct eBay/Paypal address. You are fine.

I called paypal, because I was really upset about the situation. They verified the delivery while we were on the phone, and reversed the charge soon thereafter.

thanks everyone, I learned a lot today about the processes which will help in the future. And the good news is the buyer got back to me this evening and said the package has been located. guess all worked out well.
  • Where and when did you send it? City and state?

I'm sure you'll be fine but the buyer's claim could be legit. I've got 6 items that were scanned as delivered shortly before Christmas that I never received. Does the USPS hire a bunch of temp workers during Xmas and they just rob the place blind? I'm not even going to bother opening a claim because 1.) I know I won't win and 2.) it's not the sellers' fault. Sucks because there were Christmas gifts and some tough items that I'm not sure I'll be able to replace.

See what I did there? I added a rant to your rant.
  • I asked about city, state and when because the midwest and northeast got pounded last week with snow and below temps causing the USPS to be delayed on just about everything. I received four deliveries on Saturday all throughout the day because they were so far behind. Many of my items were scanned out for delivery and didn't arrive till 2-3 days later. Plus, yes, at least at my USPS branch, they have a lot of temp workers during the holidays.

I harp on the USPS a lot because I feel that, at least my post office, does a horrible job year round...but, I think this could be because of the holidays and weather. If it shows delivered you should be able to win the case. Just might take some time.

I live in Parma Ohio outside of Cleveland and we were one of the areas pounded by snow and cold. It went down to minus 15 at one point which is real unusual for here. I mailed the package on the 4th and it was delivered on the 8th, which is in line with priority mailing from my understanding. It went to Marietta GA, which I know also had some unusually low temps. Anyways what did occur is one of the buyers relatives picked up the package on the 8th and didn't tell him until last night......time to have a long talk with that relative!! alls well now, funds have been freed up and everyone happy, happy, happy.
