Westwood rare coin Gallery

This dealer has mostly raw coins listed on eBay. I have been looking at their Peace dollars and commem halves. Many are listed as high grade mint state coins and the photos seem to back up the claims. Of course I am wondering why these coins aren't certified by TPGs, super sliders, cleaned? Any one have experience with this dealer?

wondering why anyone chooses not to slab their coins is like trying to explain why some people prefer pepsi over coke, some people just dont need anyone else's opinion.

The owner of Westwood was the plaintiff in a lawsuit against Collectors Universe in December of 2012 in U.S. District Court in California. Don't know the disposition of the case. Westwood was an active member of the C.C.E. prior to the case.

Obviously the seller knows how to get them slabbed as he sells slabbed coins as well as raw. I would not
worry of cheap coins as the cost to slab can really cut into any profits. But, on the more expensive coins, like
the 1928 Peace, I would not go near. I suspect that there is a reason the more expensive coins are not
in slabs. But, that's just me.

I looked at his raw 1890cc and don't think it would grade with the damaged reverse. So, is it still Choice BU?

It is not always necessary to slab coins.... I have many that are not slabbed, nor will they be. A matter of personal preference...Cheers, RickO

That technically means that the coins won't be bagged for AT or some other problem. Doesn't mean they won't come back a lower grade.

I first walked into Bill Dominick's store in Westwood in 1973.

About 10 years ago he had one of the top two or three Merc 10c registry sets.
