Home Buy, Sell & Trade - Cards & Memorabilia

_

This is a far more appropriate thread for the Sports Card chat board, but in the interest of transparency - I am the consignor of both of these cards. However, I thought some of you might enjoy watching these two auctions play out - as both cards are set to end at the exact same time. One is a PSA 10 Gem Mint and the other is a BVG 10 Pristine (pop 6). I feel like there is such a slight difference between PSA 10's and BVG's 10, but they seem to have a substantial price difference. The PSA 10 typically sells for around $20, while the BVG 10 has sold for $300 and up.

My experience has been that BGS 10 will blow away PSA 10 about every time. BGS is lame and gives out too many 9's and 9.5's, but Pristine 10's are pretty tough

I think you right, and that's the same experience I've had with the two. But it's interesting to see how close the actual cards are in terms of condition. I'd say it's one minor surface flaw that keeps the PSA 10 out of the BGS holder.

Centering is not perfect on the BGS, L/R is slightly off.

Agree. Looks about 45/55? While not terrible, I wouldn't think it would be a 10

This is what I was getting at. If the two cards were raw - which would you rather have?

    Big, good discussion thank you.

BTW did you try to sub the psa 10 to Beckett?

I actually sent about 20 psa 10's to Beckett (BVG 10 or nothing) that I thought looked beautiful and I scored two BVG 10's out of the bunch. This PSA 10 was in the batch that didn't get crossed.

What's the pop report comparison PSA vs BGS. Is BGS still a pop 6?

    Thanks,

    Good question:

    BVG 10 = pop 6
    PSA 10 = 2620

Boom! That's quite the price difference. Nice sales!

I paid a pretty big multiple for a Gwynn 1983 Topps BGS 10. I like that it's a pop 6 instead of a pop 300. Not sure if there is a difference in quality, to be honest.
