    Thanks for your help folks. The 1911 is too common a date for me to not buy one that's already in a PCGS holder, and I'm stuck on getting at least an MS64.

    That's true, but if the price is right, why not purchase an NGC 65 and cross it? It's about the coin first, then you put it in whichever holder you prefer. PCGS does not have the advantage and the premium in prices that it has in the US market, (with very few exceptions such as Canada) and their lack of consistency is probably the reason for that.
