1993 Finest baseball box being opened here

With all the Nikkos rips - who has been blowing me away with his rips this holiday rip period image Keep going Nikklos ! and the talk of the Donald Spence sets purchase - kind of makes my choice of rip today pretty insignificant to the world

Going to break either the 1993 topps finest or the 85 fleer box. Any fans of either that are around today ? Seeking at least one vote on which way to go today please.

I would skip the 93 Finest. Chances are you would get a common refractor worth $15.

Yeah I know, but got the boxes earlier - going with the Finest today - I need the Bernie Williams correct image I don't yet know how to distinguish the refactors from the other cards yet - but did get a good idea from pictures provided by TNP777 from a thread last year.

Started out good with this large one per box card image No idea how to now store it though

    Pack 1
First two cards in the first pack I opened I get two Tony Phillips image

    image

    Pack 2 - another twofer

    image

Pack 3 - yet another twofer

    image

(someone please let me know if any of these are refractor possibilites)

Pack 4 - Is this normal ? Two of the same in each pack ? if so - hoping for a Bernie Williams centered pair image

    image

    Pack 5 -

Are the dupes per pack normal with these ?

That would be something if you doubled on the refractor as well.

The Griffey jumbo is worth getting slabbed. There is high demand for PSA graded jumbos - really high for 10's. Even was able to make money on the stars graded 8 or above.

Tilt them in the light and you will have no trouble distinguishing a refractor from a regular card image

Two base per is not normal. A very nice hit on the Ken Griffey Jr. jumbo, those are underrated. How did the rest go?

    Love the jumbo Griffey.

I use comic book board/bag to store my jumbo, archival acid free product. You can cut the board down if desired and fold/tape excess bag.

Does that look like standard cello wrapping for 1993 Finest? Looks awfully loose... did you ever hit the Refractor?

Here is an example of one on BBCE:

Don't keep hanging!! What refractor did you get??
  • Options
Getting to the rest today - The box is a BBCE box and the only thing from keeping me from thinking this is a 'funky' box is the big Griff - that card is perfect. If someone reloaded this box that card no chance would have been here.

There is one pack in this box that was upside down, meaning pack was put in box the opposite of the rest of the packs. That pack is gettin' opened after this pack 6. If that pack has a refractor in it, well all know what to look for in these image

Pack 6 and the dupes continue

    image

Pack 7 - the upside down pack - NO DUPE but would have liked two RJ's as that card was where the dupes were previously- first two cards on back side of pack. - If anything looks like a refractor please advise

    image

Pack 8 - back to Dupes ! The only pack so far without the first two cards on the opening side of the pack has been that upside down pack

    image

    Pack 9

    image

Pack 10 - this was the other pack in the box that was upside down - with dupe this time though !

The Canseco is the refractor ? It does look a bit different than the other green cards. I'll take it ! Big Canseco fan - Note, that was the pack that was loaded opposite from the other packs in the box.

Did just find another pack that was loaded upside down - will post that above

I would place each card in a penny sleeve to protect the surfaces. Just my OCD though.
  • Options
yep - these cards need the penny sleeve - time to get to card store around here for a griffey holder and some penny sleeves.
  • Options
sorry for the bump here - Jeff - is it bad practice to place these in penny sleeves then top loaders when sending in for grading or is all ok tieh PSA doing that - never sent a card inside both before - thank you

GL on the Jose Canseco and Griffey Jr. grade. I'm sure you've already had a few PM's about them. Looking forward to see what the Canseco grades and if it's for sale. Thanks for sharing.

Canseco is notorious OC card (like many of the AS finest)

I'd say yours looks to be a 9OC. Probably get a better price selling raw (at least $40)

I'd love to open a box of 93 finest. Thanks for the thread.

Thanks saucy - yeah the card is a little oc top to bottom but am going to send it in for a miracle

The box was very fun to open - no matter what happened. Anybody else seen the freakish dupes like this ? If any griffey collectors out there please pm - heading to casino now to lose more money image but back later - Those larger cards I don't know what to do with regarding grading so somebody can get it here.

I opened a LOT of finest back in 93/94. Enough to eventually lose my mind and leave the hobby for a decade. Never saw a box with dupes like that. Never saw a box with no refractor (it was almost always in the same pack, the original hot pack per se). I did open a pair of boxes late in the game that had 3 and 5 refractors.

The Ken Griffey Jr Jumbo card is coming back a 9 - Can't find any sales history that I know how to find - anything out there on this card image

My only jumbo card - to now sit on a shelf in the house for all my friends and family members who are in to cards to see - which is a total of zero family or friends in to cards image So basically I will be the only one looking at the card on the shelf.

I have an extra Bo Jackson Jumbo in a 9 if you want to try the set. Griffey looks nice but he will be lonely all by himself.
