Well, I finally pulled the trigger at $19.25 and went in with a case of Geiger kilo bars.
I am really impressed with these bars and love the security features that I feel will be worth the slight premium ($1.79 over spot) when I sell them in 10-15 years.

I also couldn’t stand not having some 90% silver and there is nothing better than Walking Liberty Halves in my opinion.
Ended up with 12 rolls and added some 2014 Somali Elephants and Chinese Pandas for the boys collection.
Almost forgot the 500gm on top to complete the 100, 250, 500, 1000gm set.

Feels good to be back in the game after selling almost everything about 2 years ago image

Picked up a roll of 20 Britannias from APMEX, just arrived this morning. Really like these coins and the earlier years always seem to sell for a premium if you find the right buyer.

Sorry guys, I didn't mean to go over the top, just excited to finally have a stack again and look forward to buying 10oz or kilo bar once a month now that we have paid everything off but the house.

I did get these from APMEX (MCM has some, but, not the kilos that I really liked...sorry John)
    Here is some info I found before I made my purchase;

    From the Geiger website

These bars are unique indeed. They are minted bars, produced with a pressure of more than 1000 tons. So their shape is clear and attractive. In the process of minting the surface of the obverse side becomes not shining but matt and seemingly three-dimensional. The edge is not smooth like that of other bars, but ribbed as a coin - in order to prevent manipulations like filing away small chips. The reverse side is textured, containing the LEV-rhombus, the logo of our production company. And there is still another remarkable security feature: we are painting certain spots of the reverse side additionally with a special and invisible varnish. But if you put it under a UV-light these spots are reflecting in deep blue color a big LEV-rhombus and the year of mintage. The access to this varnish is restricted strictly because it is used to mark distinctive spots at banknotes as well. All these security features aim to unable counterfeiting the bars. These different and carefully incorporated security features are formidable obstacles for a potential counterfeiter.

I took a break from Christmas shopping yesterday to pop into the LCS. Silver eagles were selling for $23. I purchased these two 1996 eagles.

    image

I asked if they had anything Engelhard. These 1985 Prospector fractionals had just come into the shop. At $21.25 for all three the price was right.

Thanks for that info Zubie. I might have to look into the 1oz box of them.

Ha! Nevermind. Just saw that a box contains 200 1oz bars. I thought your kilo box was 10 bars. It's 20!!! Even more impressed/envious.

Zubie, I just checked out on line all the great security features the Geiger bars have.
For me, and I am sure others, these are now the go to silver bars of choice with all the counterfeiting of others going on.
They make them in all sizes and each has several unique security features.
With all the junk on Alibaba and elsewhere who wants to take a chance.
Disclosure…I have no connections with them at all!
    JMHO as always.

quick question, could the chinese fake the security features of the geiger bars? I've heard they've faked those apmex bars with the security I think

I suppose in time the Chinese will come close to faking everything.

    The Geiger bars are nice.
I purchased the 100gram bar and thought it was well made.
So from the smallest of bars to the largest they all appear to be a winners.

  • Super cool Zubie!
I am going to receive my first Geiger next week, a ten-ozer!
I was tempted by one of the empty boxes at Apmex but they need to be filled with too much silver! image

How is the quality of those Britannias? The first batch of last year was a fiasco.

A recent pickup... 2003 1/2 oz Gold Panda in original People's Bank of China packaging. Super low mintage that year. And notice that it says "Made in China". : )

The quality in this roll was pretty high, except for a few that had some light milk spotting. I wonder whether any spotting will emerge from the others later image

Did the roll come sealed? I'm assuming you didn't pay extra for MintDirect?

No, I didn't pay extra. It was sealed with some tape from APMEX but it wasn't the version you pay more for. Some of the coins were really amazingly nice so even if they looked through them, they left behind some nice ones.

Nothing that looked like this? I guess I won't be buying sealed rolls from APMEX then.

I wish I had kept the tape to photograph it, but I don't think it was that original mint tape shown in your photo. As I recall the tape said "APMEX" on it.
