<< <i>Why is Skin2, 1985fan, Grote, and Wrestlingcardking pounding the drum about the term Redskin, yet they
make no mention about a team named after a Chief who murdered Americans while aiding the British in the Revolutionary War ?

    An interesting question for sure.

Does wrestlingcardking like it that one of his ancestors aided the enemy, and Chief Black Hawk is on a hockey jersey ?

    Another interesting question. >>

He probably likes it a lot less than the giddiness you feel from millions of your ancestors murdering and raping his ancestors. >>

You are a true disgrace to humanity.

If you had any decency whatsoever, you would delete this post right away.

But no, you're in the same breath as Martin Bashir, who said he'd like to have someone sh*t in Sarah Palin's mouth.

    I'm out of here.

Carry on guys. It's been fun, but not anymore.

The majority of Native Americans don't feel the term Redskin is offensive.

Sorry you refuse to accept the truth. The truth hurts.
    >>

What's offensive and hurtful is your dedication to perpetuating the idea that using racist language and mascots is a good thing. That you go out of your way to perpetuate this by posting not one, not two, but three different threads about this very topic.

<< <i>It would be a good idea to stop the liberal-progressive lies. >>

The only lie here is your tired, already-proven-false 'survey' of self-described Native Americans. The only lie here is the one YOU are perpetuating.

<< <i>America is growing tired of it. >>

America is growing tired of the non-stop HATE and BIGOTRY people like YOU perpetuate. Instead of realizing that the term 'Redskin' is offensive and divisive, and should be changed, you go out of your way to push to keep it. YOU and people like you are all that is wrong in America.

<< <i>You'll see it play out in a few years. >>

Yes, we'll see the name changed and then you'll have to find a new race/culture/people to intimidate, marginalize, and hate. Because that's all you do - spread hate and intolerance. I hope to all that's holy you don't have kids, because the last thing we need is more people sharing your bigoted, hateful point of view.

Calm down a bit. This began some time ago as a debate as to whether an NFL team should change their longtime nickname. Now we are reduced to accusations of generational murder and rape and admonitions for those that disagree, to not have children.

I was a member of the old Open Forum which got booted from here about 8 years ago. It got heated, but I never recall it getting heated like this.

Like Edmundfitzgerald, I will move on. Perhaps the truculence will burn out like a dropped sparkler on a wet windy Chicago, Fourth of July.

    Peace.

Wrestlingcardking uses the name Indian. Why not Stanford? >>

Because mascots based on ethnicity perpetuate stereotypes and will likely lead to offending people.

<< <i>CBS Sports Poll - 2013...........90% of Native Americans say it's not offensive, and they even name their own schools Redskins !!!!!!!! >>

Please send me any phone number Edmund via PM as I am attending a Native Wellness Training in San Diego at the moment. You can view their website on the web. Anyhow, I am in one class of about sixty people right now and you can ask each person on their view of the term used in this survey or just call them the name on the phone to see the reaction you will get. I got the okay and our class of Natives are willing to talk to you tomorrow. I think you would be quite surprised if you truly believe the numbers above. Of course, these are a lot of educated Indians so you may simply dismiss it and chose to "survey" other Indians to come up with the numbers you cited above. I also have a theory on why some Natives may be okay with the term but that is for another post. Hope you can carve out a little time for us. My best. Rob >>

Serious question, Rob. You use the terms Natives and Indians interchangeably. I always thought that the Natives rejected the Indian name, please share your thoughts. >>

No, not really. The Indian name in my experience is used rather frequently. I think that most native peoples would just rather be referred to what they actually are. For example, since I would rather be called Yurok before Native American or Indian but okay with either of those other terms as well in a general sense. General paperwork that asks for it, etc. If I was to introduce myself I refer to my Tribe and not the general terms. I do know a lot of other native people that while okay with the general term Indians do not like it in use as a mascot. The general reason is the stereotypes it perpetuates.

<< <i>Checked their website (quite nice I must say) and in their history they use the word Indian. So the Stanford team cannot use that word as it is what, derogatory or because it is the name of a group of people? You liberals need to get your propaganda straight. >>

Because of the stereotypes used with the word and not caring to see a mockery of their culture and deeply religious ceremonies, watching ignorant people dress up like them for sporting events or Halloween (remember now if someone choses the equivalent blackface)....I don't see it as propaganda but more about human decency and understanding.

According to my curriculum book from this Native Wellness Institute the 100 years after Columbus there were almost 100 million native people killed and 95% of the population, and some tribes are no longer here because of it........ I'm on both sides of the fence here with blood from both sides of war you cite above.

The United States government has a rather terrible history on the treatment of native people and could be considered the enemy......

Not to beat a dead horse here...but not a single person defending the use of Natives as mascots has given Wrestlingcardking any type of response to refute anything he says...or have given any satisfactory answer to any of his questions. Not a single defender of the mascots has done a satisfactory job.

And Dimeman? You have the nerve to call ANYBODY an idiot or moron?? Seriously? Are you kidding?

You claim to be some sort of life long expert and follower of the NFL and Dallas Cowboys...yet you cannot spell any of their names correctly? So either you are indeed dumb, or you are simply lying about the level of expertise of the NFL and Cowboys. Choose your poison fella.

As for everyone else who seems to hold the same questionable views on this topic as Dimeman...you have aligned yourself with a guy who is either a moron or a liar, and seem quite happy to do so. That is some good company to be in image Perhaps finding a better spokesman will do your stance better justice(if it is possible to justify poor taste).

PS, yes 1985fan is over the top at times too. I actually wish that myself and all others never entered this thread because it deflected away from the best posts, because NOBODY had any answers for WrestlingcardKing's posts. All of the defenders response should have been directed toward his posts, but they werent, because there is no answer for them, as any answer either makes those people liars, hypocrites, or just flat out wrong...none of which are good options, and that is why they won't answer.

But I am glad (I and others) have posted to show wrestlingcardking that there are people that support his position and respect him.

None of those guys(defenders of mascots) had the balls to take you up on your offer, or even engage you directly in human conversation about the topic, choosing instead to relish in the fact that good guys like you are indeed offended by the whole thing.

PS. Edmundfitzgerald and Dimeman...what a duo. I don't think anybody would want you arguing for any issue they believe in, yuck.
