Are you talking about the liberal-progressive on this board who likes to refer to the 90% of Native Americans who like the term Redskin as bigoted and racist for disagreeing with his opinion ? Kind of sad that this liberal-progressive tries to speak lie after lie on this forum, but that's kind of the norm nowadays I guess.

LOL! Did you even read the article? That isn't a recent poll you fool@ That is the same idiotic poll from 2004 you were referencing before! The one where they called 65,000 random Americans, 768 of whom 'identified' themselves as Natives, and of those 768 supposed Natives, that is where they asked just one question and got their figure from, lol.
I like how you put 2013 in the title of your link, and neglected to mention it was a dumb poll from 2004. But you approve of naming youth teams blackskins, redskins, and yellowskins, so I am not surprised.
This below, and the cartoon montage are what needs to be answered.
< I am waiting for the day that the defenders, the actual people, of native mascots decide to name one of their community little league or pop warner football teams after another race instead of Indians and honor them too because they deserve it. The honorers of racist mascots can dress up like them, portray the stereotypes of them to the nth degree and see the outrage that would come their way. Name your team with a non-racist term like Kings after MLK. In the mean time, be sure to dress up like him (black paint necessary if you are white), imitate his speeches to others, includes aspects of religion in here as many deeply spiritual experiences are basically ridiculed by others when in a sports context, and do nothing but honor the team and I am sure you will be making the news in no time. You could literally be on ABC, NBC, CBS all of them.....and I am sure you would be known as the town racist or bigot and people and/or businesses would want to distance themselves from you, to not be associated with you, and depending where you work fired or on ad min leave. Yet it is perfectly okay for mascots to happen to native people, why? >>
One begins to wonder why fitz spends so much time looking for evidence to support his racists views, and why he feels the need to broadcast them over and over again.
A recent quote from the article.............................
There are Native American schools that call their teams Redskins. The term is used affectionately by some natives, similar to the way the N-word is used by some African-Americans. In the only recent poll to ask native people about the subject, 90 percent of respondents did not consider the term offensive...

One begins to wonder if you have any respect for Native Americans that don't agree with you.
lol, it may be the only 'recent' poll, but it wasn't a very good one, or really recent....as outlined above. Basically, it is an old poll, where there were 768 people who were talked to on the phone by a complete stranger, and they 'identified' themselves as natives. LOL. That DOES NOT mean that 90% of the real five million plus Native Americans don't mind the term.
However, I am still concerned why YOU approve of naming youth teams redskins, yellowskins, or blackskins?

Fitz, you might be too obtuse to realize it, but I'm fairly certain even those on the right side of the political spectrum, or those not even personally offended by the Redskins team name, would consider the creation of this thread rather ridiculous.
The analogy comparing the "affectionate" use bythe Native Americans of the term redskin with the "affectionate use of the N-word" is ridiculously patronizing, too.

Did any of you Bleeding Heart people that like to jump on anybody's cause just to get attention happen to read yankeeno7's post??!!
Good grief.....get a life. There some very good reasons that the Washington Redskins won't and shouldn't have to change their name.
In no particular order:
1) Washington is calling their team the "Redskins". They are not calling Native Americans "Redskins"!! DO YOU UNDERSTAND THAT???
2) Most Native Americans know this and understand this!!!
3) Even if some are offended for some non-understanding reason......THIS IS A DEMOCRACY!! If you let a few people do away with things that millions have decided on......it would be the tail wagging the dog.
While I can understand Native Americans NOT wanting to be (and should not be) called "Redskins" ...... this is NOT what is going on with the team name of the Washington NFL team. Anybody that has a brain understands the difference of these two uses of the word and thinks nothing of it. But it seems some here just like to puff up and act like they are racing to the cause of someone who doesn't even want it.
I applaud the owner of the Washington Redskins and wish all the College teams that buckled in to a problem that wasn't even there.....would change their names back!
I know that 1985fan and skin and grote are going to label me a racist......showing just how ignorant they are on this matter!!
No matter how bad they hate it.....THEY ARE WRONG ON THIS!!!!
We have to be gentle towards the less educated in society. Please find it in your heart to have mercy on skin2, grote, and 1985fan.
Even though they'll call Native Americans who have no problem with the term Redskin bigots and racists, don't let their progressive-liberal attack tactics bother you.
Just turn the other cheek, and forgive them, for they know not what they do.
<< <i>I applaud the owner of the Washington Redskins and wish all the College teams that buckled in to a problem that wasn't even there.....would change their names back! >>
Very few want St John's to change their name back to Redmen, very few want Stanford to change back to the Indians. If they were to do that, it would mean giving in to a small minority who are too easily offended

I'm glad you see the fight to get rid of a racist team name as an attention getting ploy. That speaks volumes bout you.

They are dehumanizing an entire race of people with this team name.
<< <i>2) Most Native Americans know this and understand this!!! >>
False. The article I linked proves hundreds of Native American tribes disagree and disapprove of it. Next?
<< <i>3) Even if some are offended for some non-understanding reason......THIS IS A DEMOCRACY!! If you let a few people do away with things that millions have decided on......it would be the tail wagging the dog. >>
With this line of 'thought' slavery would still be legal. Interracial marriage would still be banned. Women would not have equal rights. Just because it affect a minority doesn't make it any less egregious.

So we can call a sports team the 'blackskins' or 'yellowskins' and no one should be offended right? Good lord you're unbelievable!
<< <i>I applaud the owner of the Washington Redskins and wish all the College teams that buckled in to a problem that wasn't even there.....would change their names back! >>
You probably want women back in the kitchen and other minorities 'back in their place' too.

Smiling while using hateful, ignorant and racist language doesn't make you any less offensive, it makes you more so. Showing just how lightly you take the issue of racism is proof you are.
And did you read ANY of the posts written by wrestlingcardking? OBVIOUSLY, those college teams changed their names for a REASON. One which you are too bigoted to understand. I don't "hate" or "like" it, but YOU are the one that is CLEARLY wrong on this issue. If you don't think it's okay to name a team the "Blackskins" or the "N" word for that matter, than your position on this issue is 100% HYPOCRITICAL. That isn't even up for debate. If you think those names ARE okay, than at least I get a clearer understanding of your position on the matter and you can freely embrace your racist views without me giving you any more grief over it. >>
Here we go again equating Redskins (a term that the majority of Native Americans have no problem with) to the N word (which pretty much all African Americans have a problem with).
And you have to continue to love how when progressive-liberals disagree with you, they feel a need to call you racists and bigots.
They don't understand that they call Native Americans who like the Washington Redskins bigots and racists too.
No wonder the progressive-liberals are falling out of favor with America. I think America is growing tired of their lies.
Checked their website (quite nice I must say) and in their history they use the word Indian. So the Stanford team cannot use that word as it is what, derogatory or because it is the name of a group of people? You liberals need to get your propaganda straight.
<< <i>1985fan - Your ignorance is just overwhelming! I have never seen anyone so self centered and thinks he is so smart, but can't understand anything!
Now....as I leave this thread don't take it as a sign that you even remotely won the arguement...... because it is what it is!
JUST THAT YOU ARE NOT WORTH MY TIME!!!! >>
Yet here you are making multiple posts to reply to me. I also love that of all the people in favor of ditching this racist team name, you focus your ire my direction.
<< <i> You take the position that "Redskin" is no big deal all the while being careful enough to repeatedly refer to them as "Native Americans". If YOU and the majority of Americans have no problem with it, why is it that we never hear it in everyday conversation, including out of your own mouth? Because YOU KNOW there is something wrong with it. >>
You are confused.
I prefer to refer to Native Americans as Native Americans.
I applaud Dan Snyder for naming his team the Redskins. I applaud the Native Americans who like the Redskins. I applaud the Native Americans who name their own pee wee football teams the Redskins.
Who said it was ok? It wasn't me. If it was me, I would get rid of all these mascots: the Blackhawks logo, Chief Wahoo, all of them make a mockery of an entire race of people. Why doesn't it get as much attention as the Redskins' racist name? Because the NFL is massively more popular than the NHL, and DC is the our country's capital. Period.
But continue to find anything to try to deviate from your original post that because a small percentage people are offended by racist terminology and mascots, its ok. Ignore the generous offer of a phone call to find out how real Native Americans (and not self-identified phone survey respondants) feel about the issue. Ignore everything but the racist, bigoted feelings you are so committed to defending.
>>>Your HYPOCRISY is written in your OWN posts. You take the position that "Redskin" is no big deal all the while being careful enough to repeatedly refer to them as "Native Americans". Read # 1 in my previous post......duh.....see the difference. How can you equate going up to a person on the street and calling him a "Redskin" and naming a football team the "Redskins"!!!!! Any moron should be able to discern the difference.
Why is Skin2, 1985fan, Grote, and Wrestlingcardking pounding the drum about the term Redskin, yet they make no mention about a team named after a Chief who murdered Americans while aiding the British in the Revolutionary War ?
An interesting question for sure.
Does wrestlingcardking like it that one of his ancestors aided the enemy, and Chief Black Hawk is on a hockey jersey ?
I'm just amused that someone who is unable to spell even the most popular names of the NFL players on his own team that he supposedly roots for is lecturing anyone on any topic, lol.

Of course, these are a lot of educated Indians so you may simply dismiss it and chose to "survey" other Indians to come up with the numbers you cited above. I also have a theory on why some Natives may be okay with the term but that is for another post. Hope you can carve out a little time for us. My best. Rob >>

Bawling 'liberals' I guess you mean? Wow, you don't sound like a fox news 'personality' at *all*. I mean, not at all.

That is probably a line I picked up from Michael Savage. I really don't like Fox much. Too canned and formatted. Sort of like MSNBC, but in the other direction. Not that CNN is apolitical by any means but they let a bit of news slip in between the commentary.

Serious question, Rob. You use the terms Natives and Indians interchangeably. I always thought that the Natives rejected the Indian name, please share your thoughts.

<< <i>Did any of you Bleeding Heart people that like to jump on anybody's cause just to get attention happen to read yankeeno7's post??!!

I'm glad you see the fight to get rid of a racist team name as an attention getting ploy. That speaks volumes bout you.

They are dehumanizing an entire race of people with this team name.

False. The article I linked proves hundreds of Native American tribes disagree and disapprove of it. Next?

With this line of 'thought' slavery would still be legal. Interracial marriage would still be banned. Women would not have equal rights. Just because it affect a minority doesn't make it any less egregious.

So we can call a sports team the 'blackskins' or 'yellowskins' and no one should be offended right? Good lord you're unbelievable!

You probably want women back in the kitchen and other minorities 'back in their place' too.

Smiling while using hateful, ignorant and racist language doesn't make you any less offensive, it makes you more so. Showing just how lightly you take the issue of racism is proof you are.
<< <i>
And did you read ANY of the posts written by wrestlingcardking? >>

Wrestlingcardking uses the name Indian. Why not Stanford?
<< <i>I thought were starting work about 5 hours ago? LOL.. >>

<< <i>1985fan - Your ignorance is just overwhelming! I have never seen anyone so self centered and thinks he is so smart, but can't understand anything!

You are probably still confused though.
<< <i>Yet we name the Chicago Blackhawks after an Indian leader who joined the British to slaughter Americans fighting the Britiish >>
Read # 1 in my previous post......duh.....see the difference. How can you equate going up to a person on the street and calling him a "Redskin"
and naming a football team the "Redskins"!!!!! Any moron should be able to discern the difference.
make no mention about a team named after a Chief who murdered Americans while aiding the British in the Revolutionary War ?
An interesting question for sure.
Does wrestlingcardking like it that one of his ancestors aided the enemy, and Chief Black Hawk is on a hockey jersey ?
Another interesting question.
<< <i> So, it's good to know where you stand on the issue and that naming teams by racially offensive terms doesn't bother you at all. >>
Hey Mr. PHD
Here's a news flash for you.
The majority of Native Americans don't feel the term Redskin is offensive.
Sorry you refuse to accept the truth. The truth hurts.
It would be a good idea to stop the liberal-progressive lies.
America is growing tired of it.
You'll see it play out in a few years.
<< <i>I applaud Dan Snyder for naming his team the Redskins. >>
