Question about a PSA 5...

Why do most people equate a PSA 5 with a crease on the card...

when, no where does it mention a crease in the grading standards or criteria???

creases only begin to get mentioned with a PSA 4 and below...

    5s should not have creases.

    I have seen 5's with spider wrinkles...is a spider wrinkle a crease?

My thoughts are that a 5 is the BEST you can expect if there is any kind of "crease" whether you call it a "dent" or a "wrinkle".

Because the terms "crease" and "wrinkle" are often incorrectly used interchangeably.

A wrinkle is only on one side of the card. A crease goes through the card and is on both sides*.

When you see a Mint looking card in a PSA 5 holder, there's usually a wrinkle on the front.

When you see a Mint looking card in a PSA 6 holder, there's usually a wrinkle on the back.

    * Regarding creases, if you want to get more technical, a light crease doesn't break the surface; a heavy crease does break the surface.

This is good info. I knew PSA 5's were probably a wrinkle, but was always confused when I'd get a PSA 6.

It's hard to find the flaw in a lot of 5's and they are quite often the best deal around if you're building a raw set that looks NM.

  • Sidepocket,

I couldn't agree more I'm currently putting together a 53 topps set in 6 grade and the cards are more affordable by far and look great!
