First pack was a very encouraging one, centering-wise. Does anyone here who colects this set know which cards are the toughest low pops? I really like the way the team poster takes the hit on the gum in these packs, too~I am actually thinking about starting this set and putting it together strictly from self-submitted cards, as foolish as that sounds, lol..

Results of packs 2 and 3--another Carew, though not quite as nice as the first, and a Fisk. Pleased overall with centering on these, which is usually tough from my understanding.

Packs 5 and 6--a few very sharply centered cards. Will stop here as I may actually submit a couple of the packs themselves to PSA as they are really clean and mint.

Here were the cards I previously pulled from from packs from same box. The Ryan is sadly OC, but otherwise very sharp.

When I last ripped a box of 1982 OPC, here were my tabulations at the time of the toughest star cards in the set in terms of grading. Unsurprisingly, the In Action cards are generally the toughest across the board-

#18 Johnny Bench, no PSA 10's ever graded
#31 Tom Seaver In Action, no PSA 10's ever graded
#36 Rod Carew, no PSA 10's ever graded
#58 Carlton Fisk All-Star, no PSA 9s or PSA 10s ever graded
#80 Jim Palmer, no PSA 10's ever graded
#81 Jim Palmer in Action, no PSA 10's ever graded -- only one PSA 9 ever graded
#95 Ozzie Smith, no PSA 10's ever graded
#101 Mike Schmidt in Action, No PSA 9s or PSA 10s ever graded
#110 Carlton Fisk, no PSA 10's ever graded
#111 Carlton Fisk In Action, no PSA 10's ever graded
#146 Joe Morgan In Action, no PSA 10's ever graded
#179 Steve Garvey, no PSA 10's ever graded
#208 Joe Morgan, no PSA 10's ever graded
#237 Robin Yount, no PSA 10's ever graded
#256 Tony Perez In Action, no PSA 10's ever graded
#300 Reggie Jackson, no PSA 10's ever graded
#337 Pete Rose All-Star, no PSA 10's ever graded
#346 Tom Seaver All-Star, no PSA 10's ever graded
#352 Dave Winfield, no PSA 10's ever graded
#377 Reggie Jackson All-Star, no unqualifed PSA 8s, PSA 9s or PSA 10's ever graded
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

I got my BBCE Black Friday sale order today (4 75 mini wax pacxks and 8 77 opc wax packs), and will rip at least 2 of the 75s and a few 77s later tonight!

With a tip of the cap and a raise of the glass to Robb (fergie23) image , I think I'm going to just use this one thread to chronicle my future rips. I will also post grades here in this thread for any cards I sub once I get them back from PSA, too.

EXCELLENT ... so that means in the future you will be ripping some $300.00 - $400.00 packs! LOL

Best of luck Tim. It would be great to see you pull a low pop "10" from the mini pack!

Best of Luck, Tim!! I predict that you pull a Rose or a Ryan. They seem to gravitate to the packs you rip!!!

Thanks for the encouraging words, guys! It spurs me on to ripping, lol...

Well, I ripped 2 of the 75 mini packs (the two with tears in them), and 4 of the 77 opc packs (the 4 with tears and/or broken gum in them). 75 mini cards were razor sharp and very clean and colorful with perfect registration but tough centering as usual. I was happy to pull a very nice Chuck Dobson though, as it is one of the cards I need for my mini registry set. I have been working on this set since 2007 and am now finally over 80% completed with it. I could have finished it long ago, but I have tried to maintain at least a 2/3 % of self-submitted cards for the set in the process. The Mets team card is also nice (and a tough low pop card) but centering likely relegates it to an 8.

The 77 opc cards were also sharp and overall better centered but were plagued with surface issues which is fairly common with this issue. Lots of star power in these 4 packs--one of them had Yount on back which I didn't see until I opened it, another had Seaver on back which I did save. The McGraw has a real shot at gemmint, imo.

Will do, Tony! It's yours if so, as I do have a 9 in my set already.

Sure, 3 Phillies and the worst centered one of course is Schmidt. image

I will keep you posted, Tom. Unfortunately, with the December specials, there won't be any trips made to Newport Beach this month.

I understand. If/when you get any 1977's back, please keep me posted. I have 78 PSA 10's in my set. I have a few more to send to PSA as well but like you ,nothing going this month!

Tim & Tom ... don't you guys think that the McGraw has the slightest diamond cut to it? How would that effect the grading on that issue?

Judging by this Schmidt card the McGraw is within parameters for sure.

It is and the grade will all depend on who looks at it. As it goes with OPC, a card that looks like a 9 could grade a 7 ,8 or 10!
