I hope to see it in person at lot viewing. I saw it on the Heritage website last week. Pretty cool!

Do they use the "Official 1804 SIlver Dollar Grading Standards" on these?

Even if the grade on the slab was off by 50 points, it would still be an awesome coin!

More so if it was off by 62 points image

Certainly a classic, I do not know what grading standards are used though. Does anyone know, was the coin dipped prior to being placed in the current holder?

I can't remember where I read it, but growing up when I first collected coins, around age 10, I thought this was the rarest coin out there and worth a ton of money. I had completely forgotten about it since then and thank you for the link!!! Very cool design. Love it.

I'll take the over. Way over. And I'm giving you the extra $25K.

    Great great coin.

    Is it the finest known?

Although I haven't seen it in person, the Garrett Punch-on-Wing is considered the finest known, by a significant margin.

And I want a piece of CJ's action!

Out of curiosity, when was the last time a Brasher Doubloon came to market? 2005?

    Tom

  • ColonelJessupColonelJessup Posts: 6,442 ✭✭✭✭✭
In late 2011 the Punch on Breast was brokered in the $7,400,000 area. JA told me he made 1% on the deal.

The POB was out of 2005 FUN at just under $3 mil, and the PO Wing in 55 bought about $2.4M.

Do your price extrapolations accordingly image

Read the catalogue descriptions of the coins from HA archives. Exceedingly cool image

I never could understand the allure of this coin. Would much rather have the millions spent on this to spend on good ole U.S. coinage.

This is the most validating thing you've said since I posted I'd take the Quint at $500K and my left pinky toe.

Should we bump it to $6M+vig and see if we can get 2-1 odds? . image

  • Back in the 70's a Brasher Doubloon was often listed as THE most valuable coin sold at auction. Was always my dream to find one since I knew I couldn't buy one. Love the history of it and the design, the sun and mountains, the borders, even love that eagle.

Successful BST deals with mustangt and jesbroken. Now EVERYTHING is for sale.

How many different people do you think could be in the market for an 8-figure coin?

Looks like Mr. Perschke made some very astute investments - after the "type 2" quint and this coin, I wonder what's next to be consigned??

I just read the HA description and would encourage others to click the link in this thread. It was quite the history lesson on the Brasher Doubloon and well worth the time. Price is at $4,112,500 including the buyers premium. Two more days to reach the estimates in this thread.
