The cure for website slowness

rec78rec78 Posts: 5,861 ✭✭✭✭✭
Hello, There have been a number of threads on how slow the website is, including one by me. Brol on one of the threads suggested this:

" Just use a Firefox + Adblock Plus plugin + newest Flash + newest Java".

Hay, I added the Adblock plus plugin and my speed went from a snails pace to lightning fast.(I already was using Firefox) Try it- It will probably work for you also. Thanks Brol !!!

" Just use a Firefox + Adblock Plus plugin + newest Flash + newest Java".

Works for me. I have had no problems with speed using the above.

I would add it but DW has threatened those that use ad blockers

I'm surprised that ad code is the culprit. I guess the higher powers need to look into this.

Anytime I click into anything on this website I get a blank screen for about 20 sec with the black bar above it. It's getting very annoying. Never had this problem before. Does anyone else have this problem?
  • Thank you so much that is the cure 100%

Blocking the ads of the advertisers that pay for these forums is inappropriate! Reported! image

Waiting up to a minute for the page to load is inappropriate, especially since this problem never seemed to occur before. Perhaps you should report that. Sheesh, some people would report the guy up the street to the state police for letting his dog take a dump on their lawn....
  • LOL
But in all seriousness, the website has never been slow for me (unless it was down) using Safari. I have been using adblocker, but took it off for CU and it still works quite fast.
    Just do it.

Perhaps these are the "changes to the forum" we were warned of . Morbidly slow on the iPhone. Reminds me of AOL dialup

I have a habit of surfing the site with my iPhone5 every day via WiFi...and I cannot even navigate the site at all. Anyone know of something that will fix that problem? The site is totally broken. image

    How about this:

Scrap the current software, stop throwing time and money at it.

Implement the new software rumor has that you already have?

Start from scratch and have everyone sign up again with a new or the same name.

Let all banned members return, have rules in place to ban the bad people quickly.

Hmmmmmm. Well, at least allow the current member list to be ported over to the new system along with their current post count and start date. Then find a solution to archive this current site's old posts so that knowledge is not lost. Oh...we need a warning ahead of time so that we can go grab our important conversations from PMs as well.

Problem is on the PCGS Server. Something is going on, and I will not speculate, but "Don't touch your dial" as there is nothing you can do on the Client side of this to fix "it".

Adblock Plus plugin finaly cured the endless lag for me using IE9.

Ridiculous that we had to figure this out to post here.

IE on my work and home PCs is way slow here, safari on my ipad is way slow here. Since Friday night/Saturday.

Ad widgets with lousy code and lousy servers very well can be the culprit, see it all the time. Most of the time any ad or disquss (et all) site I hit that has slowness is because of all of the extra junk trying to load with a bottleneck somewhere. One server hiccup anywhere on the assembly line can cause this and it is annoying. Even the almighty googleads servers have had issues with this over the years.

+1 on AdBlock for Chrome working. Thanks for the tip!

    +1 before poof.
    Lance.
  • The problem seems to be in the Ads. With Adblock enabled you fix the issue (but, as said, it is not recommended by Mr. Willis himself!).

Though, I can't figure out the fix for my iPhone, I have problems there as well.

There would be a lot of lost info, a lot of lost pictures and a lot of great lost threads. If all that could be archived and be made accessible, fine but to lose it all would be a crying shame.
